Sunday Of The Dead Afternoon Blues

DAMN

A song I wrote at the start of the year, once again trying to channel my inner Taylor Swift. Sort of about that phase after a friendship or relationship is over and you're still kind of wistful about it, but it doesn't sting quite as much anymore and you're starting to move on. This is a one take demo recording with some test harmonies - need to redo this properly and add some dynamics to make it more interesting, but you get the gist!

Sometimes you get the feeling that everyone else is holding you back and keeping you down when you realize you are an equal "burden" to everyone else BUT actually you and they are not each other's burden at all but  can be mutual assets to help each other along if you have tolerance/patience/empathy

every day you get up and climb aboard your train
it pulls you up your mountain as you try to reach your dreams
sometimes the track is smooth other times it needs repair
you stay with your engine and work hard to get you there

you cross over canyons and scream down hills so steep
sometimes so fast you lose your breath and think you're going to die
then you glide by meadows yellow
rivers wind through forests green
nature comes and calms you down and you're ready to go on

your train is pulling box cars and you add more every day
some are light and filled with hope to help you on your way
others filled with bags from those you've met along the way
these are heavy ,weigh you down, a  heavy price to pay

why must I pull boxcars filled with others bags and rags
MY mountain is so steep and tall these only weigh me down
doesn't seem fair at all doesn't seem fair
why don't they leave me alone

each of us has our own train and soon you'll realize
YOUR bags are in the cars THEY pull to reach their other side
each day you pull your little train along with all the rest
the load you pull is your and theirs we all must do our best

the mountain is a common goal, it's good for everyone
for you and them to reach the top you'll need each others help
so add more coal to pull the load
the coal does not come from the ground
the fuel you need's  inside of you
it's been there all along
