Merle wrote so simply, yet so eloquently. I'm not proficient enough for a guitar solo, so you get the bare bones of a song that needs nothing more. Usually he wrote in keyof D, 1-4-5, but this is the Katie Moffett version (from Dave Alvin's incredible tribute album, Tulare Dust) in A.  I think.

The Miller's Wife- Original by Jennie Kay Snyder

Originally from the Allegheny Forest, Jennie Kay Snyder is a veteran of the LA and Austin music scenes. A classically trained mezzo soprano, she was one of three founders and lead singers of Ventura, CA based Western Swing band, The Tatters, whose self-titled, critically acclaimed debut record garnered a "Top Ten DIY Picks of 2001" honor from Performing Songwriter magazine. After 911, she took a five-year hiatus to focus on songwriting in the Wallowa Mountains of Eastern Oregon, where she was awarded a scholarship to participate in the songwriting workshop by the prestigious Fishtrap Summer Gathering.
While in Austin,Texas, she occasionally sang with old friend and rockabilly queen Rosie Flores, was guest vocalist for the Texas Swing Kings and the Magnolia Band, and played keys, sang, and recorded with electronic pop/rock group The Noise Revival, led by now international composer, Nathan Felix, also known as Nathan Noise.
In her 30-year career, she has been on bills with Southern Culture on the Skids, The Red Elvises, Townes Van Zandt, Albert Lee, Tony Gylkeson, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Victoria Williams, Timbuk 3, and Nashville's Lonesome Bob, and appears on dozens of live and studio recordings as a lead and backing vocalist.
In Pittsburgh, she performs with her sister, Erin Snyder, as The Snyder Sisters, playing original and traditional Appalachian and Bluegrass songs, sang lead and harmony vocals for the post punk comedic polka experience, The  Polkamaniacs, sang lead and harmony with The New Poor and Slim Forsythe, and has been known to do the occasional duet and harmony vocals with country songwriters and Nashville session guys Lonesome Bob and Kevin Karg (Texas Tex of The Hangdogs). She contributed vocals on the Beagle Brothers' release "All My Friends", Calliope Folk Music Society's 2010 compilation CD as a solo artist, and is backing vocalist on several subsequent editions.
Her roots-flavored original songs have been described as universal and timeless; her performance style exuberant and soulful, and her voice has drawn comparisons to Emmylou Harris, Julie Miller and Iris Dement.
