Captive is a work for solo piano, written in mid 2010. The three excerpts here are taken from a recording in June 2010 at the John Halford Competition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, performed by Sam Liu.

Bells In The Rain

An exercept from the premiere of Moto Perpetuo (for solo organ) on 28th July 2015. 

The recording was rather noisy, so I've only uploaded one minute of the five ish minute piece! 

Moto Perpetuo (excerpt)

Short and snappy, Quintango is a duet based around – as its name suggests – a tango-like rhythm with five beats in the bar. The first couple of bars from the secondo pianist set the scene – rising scales and a chord made up of a cluster of seconds – before the catchy melody line begins. The piece dances around, melody moving between the players, as the tango grows and reaches its conclusion.

Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep was premiered by Corrina Dolso and the Equinox Voices pop-up choir on 12th March 2016 at the Celebrating Women Composers concert in Colchester. Many thanks to the choir: (in alphabetical order) Yvonne Graham, Harriett Gruender, Rachel Lee, Nadia MacDonald, Hilary Nicholls, Zoe Parker, Laura Richardson and Jane Robinson.

A moment of beautiful calm in mad surroundings, allowing one to pause and reflect. This is the aura of Do not stand at my grave and weep, featuring close harmonies, suspensions and slightly unexpected harmonies. The music deliberately features very few dynamics and articulation marks, allowing the performers involved to make the piece their own. 

This setting of Do not stand at my grave and weep is one part of Jenni Pinnock’s Requiem. The ethos of the Requiem is to reflect, reminisce and eventually accept the concept and presence of death within our lives, and to contemplate the fact that, regardless of religion, we will all experience death, and can share some common ground in our feelings and reflections upon it. This text is one that Jenni has known for years, and one whose sentiment lends itself perfectly to this suite of pieces.  This setting was written in 2013.

A couple of excerpts of Crepuscular rays//Autumn leaves. Rough recording (a couple of wrong notes!). 

The piece begins with crepescular rays creeping through the clouds, before the autumn leaves start falling. Just gently at first, but they pick up throughout the music until just a few are left to fall.

Cracked Voices

The Blessing of the Road-born Child (Donna Lennard and Sue Pettitt)

Spring Sun is a short piano piece, written about those first warm rays of spring sunshine. Written at the outset of the COVID-19 outbreak, it was inspired by sun filled morning spring walks, escaping from the world and returning to nature.

Nuages

Jenni is a composer based in Cambridgeshire, UK. Her compositional voice has a wide range of influences, including her instrumental studies (piano, oboe, saxophone and gamelan), her wide ranging ensemble experience, musical theatre, and composers including Debussy, Stravinsky and Karl Jenkins. She gained a BMus from Kingston University in 2009, and a MMus in composition from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 2010. 

She took part in Making Music, Sound and Music, BBC Radio 3 and PRS Foundation's Adopt a Composer scheme in 2013-14, and has been awarded the Aldworth Philharmonic Orchestra's Young Composers Award for 2014.
