About the cd:
A superb surprise episode for 041 in the series. Massive thanks to Nick Sneddon for sending over some epic CDs recently. We are really happy to feature more downtempo CDs... it feels like the recovery soundtrack to countless nights clubbing and those sun kissed days that followed (well maybe not so much if you grew up in the UK).

Considering this came out in 1996, it features some simply gorgeous deep house and laid back electronic which go onto cement why DJ Harvey is a cult dj amongst fans and fellow spinners. It's a pleasure not just remember my own collection, but have other people send in theirs. And it's even better discovering that there's hundreds of other classics out there which need to be shared with everyone. Thanks again for the good vibes.

029 - Late Night Sessions mixed by DJ Harvey (1996)

Eli Goldstein’s career spans 20+ years on the decks and beyond.  Best known as half of EFUNK purveyors SOUL CLAP, Eli wears many hats in the music universe.  He runs SOUL CLAP RECORDS, one of Mixmag’s 10 most influential disco labels of the last decade.  He hosts a monthly radio show on New York City’s THE LOT RADIO.  He’s one of the founders of BLACK FLAMINGO, a plant based taqueria and discotheque in Brooklyn.  And he spins eclectic, vinyl oriented sets and curates a 7” record series called HOUSE ON 45.

Through it all, Eli’s mission has been to share music that feels like the past, but sounds like the future.  Music that makes you move your body and feel something in your soul.  But music is not always enough, and Eli strives to make a positive impact on the world around him by working with DJS 4 CLIMATE ACTION to support the earth, is currently working towards an M.S. in Climate Science and Policy at Bard College’s Center For Environmental Policy, and working as a researcher at A GREENER FESTIVAL. He also works with GIVE A BEAT to promote social justice and THE LOOPLAB to empower Womxn and People of Color in the media arts.

Coloring Lessons Mix Series 050: Eli Soul Clap

I recorded this set live on DAT at the Wicked Full Moon on Bonnie Doon Beach in Santa Cruz, March 7, 1993.

This is easily one of my favorite recordings of all time.  Presented here are 78 minutes (1 CD) of a much longer, late night set on the beach.  Jeno goes from classic breaks to house to acid, as only he could.  You'll dance your ass off!!!

Thanks to Torin for returning a copy of this CD to me.  While I have hundreds of hours of live sets from the early 90's recorded on DAT, saved safe and sound, they all need to be copied to computer some day.  Lots of real-time transfers to do.   Luckily, years ago, I made a few CDs like this one...  Enjoy!
