Adolescent is the moniker of 23-year-old Alex Parish, paying homage in name to the early teenage years responsible for inspiring his unique sound and vision. Much of his initial thought process in production owes to a love of late 90s Trip-Hop and Hip-Hop, in particular Portishead's seminal record 'Dummy'. However it was Parish’s travelled adolescence, coupled with a photographic obsession that inspires the true essence of these carefully sculpted, ethereal and often euphoric masterpieces.

'Golden Halls' - the debut 4-track instrumental E.P, out May 12th via KLDSCP - was conceived following a trip across China, recalling a story of adventure, young love and how one’s feelings toward another may affect the romanticised memory. This theme is represented in both it’s sonic qualities, as well as the moods created tells Parish;

“We can all recall those certain times, places, sights or sounds forever etched in our mind and souls, the ones only reignited by a second coming. Golden Halls was sculpted long after a time I’d spent in China. Lying dormant at home was an old roll of 35mm film from the trip I’d forgotten, which I then developed. I found myself recalling these sensations from the photographs that led me to exploring this as a concept. Each track from Golden Halls directly correlates to a specific photograph I have. A specific memory”

With visual influence in mind, local Brighton psych/electronic label KLDSCP who have strong orientation in visual art has become the perfect home for Adolescent.

Coinciding with the release are two free entry headline shows in Brighton and London where Parish is joined by his live band, replacing much of the synthesized parts of the Golden Halls with full instrumentation adding yet another dimension to the project.

Samy Dib and Jonathan Delachaux have accompanied Poupa Honk for several years during concerts or studio sessions. This collaboration had already given rise to productions like "The Handless Spacewalker" or "Pressure Warning", pieces in which guitar and clarinet dialogue with beats and digital bass. 

With "Golden Lowness", Poupa Honk takes again this same formula and lets speak freely its main influences like Rock-steady, Cumbia or Hip-hop, but never let a style take over, a crossbreeding still reinforced by the influences Rock and Jazz by Samy and Jo. 

During the production of the album, a great place was made improvisation and this approach, associated with the sounds of the electric guitar and the bass clarinet, brings an organic and deeply human side to a music in which the sounds digital devices are willing to put forward just as the treatment "Lo-Fi" of certain sounds. 

There is also an interest for the synthetic and the "cheap" in the work of macro-photography that Poupa Honk realizes for the visuals that accompany his music, a work based on the series and the homogeneity. Homogeneity that is found also in the five titles of "Golden Lowness".

Durante la producción del álbum, se hizo un gran lugar improvisación y este acercamiento, asociado con los sonidos de la guitarra eléctrica y el clarinete bajo, aporta un lado orgánico y profundamente humano a una música en la que los sonidos los dispositivos digitales están dispuestos a presentar al igual que el tratamiento "Lo-Fi" de ciertos sonidos. 

También son de interés para el sintético y "barato" en el trabajo de fotografía macro Honk Poupa lo convierte en música de acompañamiento visual, un trabajo basado en la serie y homogeneidad. Homogeneidad que se encuentra también en los cinco títulos de "Golden Lowness".

After two outstanding releases on Wonderwheel Recordings (2018’s “5 Star Motel” LP, and 2019’s “Saint Claude Dash / Chicha Nola” 7”), Gitkin is back with a new EP, along with two remixes from Pimps Of Joytime. “De La” - which features NYC-based singer Carol C - was inspired by the Saharan Tuareg sound, while also embracing Carl C’s Afro-Dominican roots with a beautiful melody and Spanish lyrics. 

The second track, “Canción De Aplauso,” fuses classic joyful cumbia with 70s Afrobeat, Cuban tumbao, and a bit of middle eastern flavour for good measure. The electric Guild twelve-string guitar sound is reminiscent of Turkish Saz, eliciting a festive vibe that gets the crowd grooving in live sets. 

Both songs see remixes by the Pimps of Joytime, with “De La” delving further into the trance sound. “Canción De Aplauso” gets a gogo retouch, inspired by Washington DC’s Chuck Brown, with the addition of some 70’s style funk slap bass. 

“De La Canción” EP will be released on Wonderwheel Recordings March 13th.
