Baikal Nomads presents a collaborative organic house release by Kaöb and Nofrontera. It is the first time these artists have teamed up, and it features three tracks with progressive grooves.

Kaöb is a wilderness explorer, whose music is inspired by trips to more than 50 different countries. His love of nature and organic sounds are what form the backbone of his compelling music, which combines dramatic moments with flowing rhythms.

This is the third time Kaöb has worked with Baikal Nomads, adding to a previous EP, and a contribution to one of the record label's compilations. His tracks and remixes can also be heard on other respected imprints such as Leveldva, Shango Records, MONADA, and Cosmic Awakenings.

Nofrontera is also a French artist from Paris, and he takes inspiration from cultural diversity. He is fascinated by tribal chants, and aboriginal sounds from around the world, which he fuses with contemporary electronic instruments. This is Nofrontera's first time featuring on Baikal Nomads, adding to a catalogue that also includes • kosa • and Cafe De Anatolia.

"Tangaroa" opens the release with upbeat conga rhythms and aboriginal sounds, delivering a mystical vibe with deep atmosphere. "Otro Mundo" has atmospheric synths and ceremonial sounds, creating a trippy vibe underpinned by invigorating percussion. "Native Dream" closes the release with vocal chants and liquid melodies, combining with moody pads and tribal drums.

Cologne based Jens-Uwe Beyer is releasing this new EP just weeks after his album "The Emissary" was published on Kompakt's new sub-label Pop Ambient. While"The Emissary" was completed by Beyer on his home island of Fehmarn in the Baltic Sea,"Amor dark pink tencel satin suit" is very much a collaborative effort. And on exceeding simple classifications. You'll get this the moment John Stanier (Battles, Ex-Helmet) jumps in with his remarkable drumming on "White oversized fame yarn bolero with John Stanier". Stanier plays the bouncer at the entrance of your dark alleyway club... and suddenly the goose bumps you were feeling for the last minutes on our skin explode. With music this intense, there's little time to ponder the classification. And when Stanier is done, there is nothing more than a long goodbye in the air, accompanied by the drums and you breathing in and out slowly. That John and Jens-Uwe are long time collaborators through the outfit "Cologne Tape" explains why this makes so much sense, despite feeling unheard of before. If Side A takes 8 minutes of its 13 minutes running time to hit the peak, the 12-minute-long B-side gets down to business by the third. Collaborator on "Navy stamp degrade print print oversized viscose hulpil with Barnt" is another Cologne Tape member, Beyer's Magazine label partner and neighbour Barnt. Circles everywhere, those ones where you worry they might crash into each other anytime. There is a straight base drum and a snare that somehow bring back memories of the times when industrial was as much of a sound as of a political position – truth be told, these guys don't seem to do conventional.

2018 sees Hulkkonen celebrate the 25th anniversary of his debut release. That’s a quarter of a century to all you non-mathematicians! “In a way I wanted to do an album that continues the journey I’ve been on with these last 4 albums on My Favorite Robot Records, but I also wanted to add some references to some of my older releases, you know for the true heads out there”, Jori quietly whispers from behind his trademark wineglass and a cigarette.
Starting off with futuristic and dark r’n’b sung by Jori himself in Finnish, ‘6n Jaakaappi’ was constructed almost entirely of samples recorded from a very noisy fridge backstage at legendary Helsinki club, Kuudes Linja. Next up, ‘Black Rainbow is an instrumental funeral ballad with a slavic vibe, mixed with an 808 and funky drummer beats. Classic Jori.

“On the Road to Miero” was written after musical novice Hulkkonen went to see a true maestro, Ennio Morricone performing live in Finland some while back. Incorporating elements from deep house and an ethereal vocal performance from up-and-coming Finnish artist Leeko, the track was Jori trying to “sound as Italian as possible and not failing completely”. Something he pulls off with aplomb!

Finally, “Plastic Freedom” revisits some of the Detroit-esque sound and rhythm scapes of Jori’s classic releases back in the 90’s. As opposed to modern DAW-based productions, it was recorded as a live jam and edited down later.
This wonderfully varied selection raises the question as to whether the album will fill in the gaps between these eclectic tracks so take the listener further into the outer realms of sound and space.  The answer will come in September.

Cologne-based musician Jens-Uwe Beyer creates atmospheric, melodic tech-house that ventures into song-based synth-pop as well as more experimental ambient works. Under the moniker Popnoname, he began releasing singles and EPs on German labels Firm and Italic in 2005, and was a regular contributor to Kompakt's lauded Pop Ambient compilation series. Popnoname's debut full-length, White Album, was released by Italic in 2007, and was followed by Surrounded by Weather in 2008. Two years later, Japanese label Plaza In-Crowd released Surrounded by Mars, a remix album featuring reworks by artists including the Field and Ada. That same year, Beyer co-founded experimental music and art label Magazine along with Barnt and Crato. The label's debut release was Render, a limited EP by Cologne Tape, a supergroup featuring all three of the label's founders as well as Axel Willner (the Field), Kompakt mainstay Jörg Burger, and others. In 2011, Beyer released a collaborative album with Drums Off Chaos, a percussion-heavy project spearheaded by Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit. Also in 2011, the three founders of Magazine released their first effort under that name, an abstract house EP titled Concerts, Festivals, Shows and Other Special Events. Beyer's first solo release under his own name came at the end of 2012 with the release of Red Book, a single 80-minute long track. Popnoname returned in 2013 with 50 Degrees, the project's most collaborative and song-based effort yet. In 2015, Beyer released an experimental ambient album under his own name as part of Kompakt's Pop Ambient artist album sublabel.
