POOLS, the moniker of Los Angeles duo Thee Mike Bee and DJ Morsecode, craft a sound that conjures up the easy going swagger and soulful grit of the left-most coast. The first two sides of original versions read like an album, perfect for a lazy Sunday rooftop BBQ with beers, bros and blunts, (although no doubt some of these gems will find their way into DJs' warm-up and boom-bap sets). Sides C & D elevate the juncture to dance floor level, with smooth and varied remixes from RNT stalwarts Luvless and DJ Vas, plus label newcomers thatmanmonkz and Junktion.

Bass Cadet Records is excited to introduce its new series : Orbits. Originally established in 2012, the label also stands a little vinyl corner on Weserstrasse since june 2013, right in the middle of the always bubbling neighborhood of Berlin-Neukölln. Curated from the recordstore, the series is dedicated to the artists who support it and make its life. Leaning on strong ties of respect and friendship, Orbits will consist of a slew of releases featuring some of the most inspiring and influential artists of the electronic music scene.
Orbits will start with a re-issue of two Ron Trent timeless jams out of his “Dance Classic” album, released on Prescription on CD only in 2009. The store crew takes the occasion of starting the series to bring the tracks to the vinyl format for the first time. On the A-side lies “Hooked On Your Love - 1984”, a gorgeously deep and soulful composition, one of which only the chicagoan genius has the secret. As the “Dance Classic” album is built as a tribute to the first era of dance music and club classics, the track is developing on a chilly old-school dance groove with rolling congas and percussions, on which a lustful bassline plays with piano keys, heavenly synths chords and a sweetly intoxicating female voice. On the flip, “Welcome - 1982” delivers its lush pads and jazz-funk solos on a syncopated bassline and a stripped down boogie drum track.
As always, with these two tracks Ron Trent masters the underground art of deep, bringing the vibe to a next level of craft...

We like our sunsets in Rio with an extra funky kick and we know just the man to provide the soundtrack. French producer Madji'k aka James Rick returns to Dopewax with another audio beauty. High on the heels of his previous debut "'Cause You Love Me," found on the #1 Dopewax Approved: Kenny Dope and Friends comp, he hit us with the fun-filled housey follow up, "Forceful Rhythm (T'chida)." He adorns this Brazilian House jam with a funkin' bouncy bassline on the original and throws in bit more Latin groove on the Dub Edit. Perfect for some fun in the sand.

@girlsoftheinternet is the sound of a music-industry long-timer reinventing themselves, indulging their love of classic disco house while also producing soulful live organic cuts. Their mix for us is a riotous journey through house music.

*How would you describe your sound?*

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?* 

The biggest influence for me right now is seeing people enjoy our music, it completely blows me away when people message to say they like our stuff, especially when women or members of the LGBTQ+ community. Electronic music is such a horrible schlong fest, and so many of the male DJs act so horrendously in the way they treat women at shows. It’s great to know we’re appealing to more than just banty lads.

Anybody who has ever met me will know how important Stereolab are to me, as I’ve probably tried to shame you into listening to them at some point. I love Chaka Khan, Patrick Adams.. Some of my early influences in house were Pepe Bradock, Cajual, Basic Channel, Armand Van Helden, Henry Street, Masters At Work... 

What I take away from other people’s music is how certain sounds work together; how a drum hit and a weird noise work together in a Prince record, or how a saturated kick in a Green Velvet record affects the mood of the track is where my brain goes.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

It’s mainly sample based stuff we’re releasing on the run up to our debut album. Normally we work with musicians and vocalists, but I’m completely obsessed with ‘90s disco house, so I made a load of tracks while the album comes together. Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy looping disco records was what started everything — disco loops and drum machines are the purest form of house music as far as I’m concerned. House should be fun, and I wanted to try and convey the fun side of Girls’ with these EPs. I feel like I’m cheating when I sample other people’s music, which is why I try and call it an ‘edit’ or ‘mixtape’ when I’m looping other people’s work.

The non-sample, full band, full production stuff is; our debut single ‘When U Go' which got picked up by Classic, which is the first full piece of music I made myself. 'Fondness Makes The Heart Grow Absent', which we self released last year, and it’s already been licensed for a few big compilations this year. The last track on the mix is called ‘Humble’ and features ex-Brand New Heavies vocalist and one of my good buddies Linda Muriel. It’s a 2-steppy garage-ish thing. I made a version with live instruments, but I've ended up using the demo version with me playing everything on keyboard for the album, as it was impactful than the live version. Oh also, there is a remix of a track I made with the Ballroom MC Princess Precious Ebony, who features heavily on the Viceland documentary series ’My House’.

‘T2’ marks the return of Toolroom’s collaboration concept album. 

‘T1’, released back in October 2015, was an album of new and exciting collabs from Toolroom’s roster at the time; celebrating our artists’ talents and challenging them creatively.  

At the height of lockdown in 2020, with our artists in isolation across the world, it felt like a good opportunity to bring back the series - and also help raise money for Covid-19 relief funds, with a percentage of profits going to charity. 

This time, we picked the collaborations totally at random. Drawn out of a hat by Mark Knight on a Facebook Live broadcast, 36 artists were paired up into 18 new studio partnerships.  Pairings like Amine Edge & DANCE and Maxinne; Alex Preston and Siege; Mat.Joe and Ben Remember; and Juliet Sikora and KC Lights, have resulted in the fusion of different styles, influences and ultimately an album of fresh and essential exclusive tracks. 

‘T2’ features 18 brand new tracks, with some out-of-the-box experiments and sure-fire bangers. Testament to the power of creation in isolation, and the unexpected magic of new collaborating artists at the top of their game.

Dance music has a habit of running in cycles, so whilst the newbies are discovering the latest ‘old’ style, the veterans of the industry already have it down to a fine art.
Having been a fundamental part of the UK scene since the 90’s, amassing three UK top 20 singles and over a staggering 4 million record sales worldwide, Jeremy Sylvester has refocused and thrown himself into recording a long awaited debut album.

With a mass of fresh new releases up his ever experienced sleeve, Jeremy is moving forward and embodying his vast knowledge with a great perception of what works, as well as mixing in something innovative and fresh, to keep himself a cut above the rest.

With respected EDM figureheads like Disclosure and Basement Jaxx all showing great support for Jeremy’s talent and vision, as well as noting him as one of their influences, he is now embarking on a tour of the US and Australia to once again spread the seed of his unique style.
After working with artists like Shola Ama, KC & JoJo and Kristine Blonde, Jeremy is now set to extend his collaboration portfolio with DJ Noodles and jazz singer Patsy Fuller both working with him on pioneering new tracks.

Jeremy is a DJ who is capable of covering a vast repertoire of styles, blending them into one sound that has become synonymous and identifiable to him as a DJ. Combining a mix of deep house/garage, classic 90’s style house, deep tech and jacking with a bit of old skool 4x4 garage thrown in for good measure, Jeremy’s diversity and sheer panache is second to none.
His cool DJ sets are known for twisting the dance floor into a sexy melange of movement before letting loose into a filthy beat, Jeremy knows what the crowd want, and he knows how to give it to them.

Not just content as a respected spin doctor behind the decks, Jeremy also embodies everything he brings to his live sets into a whirlwind of production where he flawlessly shows off his DJ sound, whilst combining all of his influences into one big melting pot of dance music splendour.

As the years go by, Jeremy goes on to prove himself time and time again as being an industry mainstay, having built up a stellar reputation as a player who knows exactly what he is talking about. Despite his many years on the scene, the best is yet to come from Jeremy.
