SHDW & Obscure Shape return to their mothership label From Another Mind with their six-track ‘Vergessene Welt’ EP, signalling the first material on the imprint for 18 months.

Founded in 2015, the launch of SHDW and Obscure Shape’s label From Another Mind saw the Stuttgart-based DJ/producers establish themselves via a wealth of self-released material while welcoming a long list of high-profile remixers, including Rødhåd, James Ruskin and Dax J. However, the pair’s evolution saw new ventures explored and attention focused wider afield with the launch of their second label Mutual Rytm in 2022. Utilising their A&R skills, the label has seen the duo curate and invite a selection of up-and-coming and established names while also delivering their first EP on the label in Summer, ‘Poetic Justice’. Exploring the techno sounds of tomorrow while drawing on influences of the past, the label quickly turned heads and has become a go-to for many. Following a brief hiatus, the attention is now turned back towards From Another Mind as the pair explore their origins and the signature FAM sound once again, opening the New Year with six fresh productions across their ‘Vergessene Welt’
EP.

Opener’ Planet Der Stürme’ is an exhilarating ride through driving basslines, menacing synth lines and hard-hitting percussion to march towards the peak hours and set the tone for what’s to come. ‘Der Urknall’ is a trippy and murky dive through off-kilter textures and regimented percussion, while ‘Das Gefallene Königreich’ ups the energy levels further with sharp metallic tones, skittering hats and subtle haunting melodies launching deep into the late
night hours.

On the flip, ‘Geburt Der Erde’ brings a slice of paired-back, groove-led techno as a slick acid line takes control and ebbs and flows throughout the track’s six-minute duration, before closing the physical record via the delicate yet compelling sonics of title cut ‘Vergessene Welt’ - showcasing a deep dive into far-reaching corners of the genre.

The digital package comes loaded with a bonus cut in the form of ‘Die Zeitmaschine’, a tunnelling and mesmerising trip through funky and swinging rhythms weaved amongst trademark tight drum arrangements. SHDW & Obscure Shape ‘Vergessene Welt’ EP drops via From Another Mind on 20th January 2023.

The quality of Stockholm LTD’s 2016 output has been hard to top, with acclaimed full length ‘Isle of Real’ from label boss Pär Grindvik in May, followed by a split EP from Grindvik and SLOBODA label head Nihad Tule in September.

And the Stockholm born, Berlin­based imprint is right back with another lethal VA, ‘A Number of Thoughts’. Their 39th release combines contributions from Dutchmen Doka, Sinfol and Octual plus Belgian newcomer Phara, as well as Grindvik himself.

Doka’s ‘Hidden’ layers staggering, tribal percussion under sinister robotic formants. Label boss Grindvik follows up with The Order, where jagged waves of ice build and swell to a dramatic breakdown, to be broken against warm chords and deep harmonies.

On the flipside, Phara turns out 6 minutes of thundering, stuttering techno, while Sinfol and Octual round off the EP with ‘Signals’, as syncopated toms fire under breathy moans.

Berlin based Huren rages about a profit driven society on the devastating ‘The Standards Will Come And Go’. On the flip, things take a more contemplative turn with Los Angeles' Camella Lobo of Tropic Of Cancer providing other-worldly elegance on the atmospheric ‘It Won’t take Me’. Closing the record is the weightless ‘Andromeda’, a tribute to our galactic neighbour performed by Allison Lewis a.k.a Zanias of Linea Aspera and Keluar.

This new EP sees the shy producer appearing on 4 tracks of pristine techno. A1 is an atmospheric trip while A2 is more brutal, on the B side it is going weirder and darker. We think Unknown Artist tries to craft interesting techno cuts and that he loves variety.
That it is the idea behind STAUB since its beginnings, it does not matter whether you are a newcomer or Lady Gaga, what matters is the quality of the music. This is what was again aimed with this third record.

Having carved out a lane truly his own in the often harshly competitive world of techno, Argentinian-born / Barcelona-based producer Sebastian Lopez, alias Flug, has long proven to be no bit player in the scene and his compositions have kept signalling a fighting fit producer, whose highest standards of floor skippering and experimentation-friendly approach have never failed him over the years. Resurfacing three years after the drop of his debut vinyl album, 'In Safe Hiding', Flug clocks in on Quartz Rec with 'Flug I - The Collection' - a long-player bound to reconnect fully with the club and produce very energetic tracks that represent the techno he loves playing during his DJ sets. All tracks were originally written on tour, on the plane or in hotel rooms to better capture the dancefloor's vibe, using field recordings from around the globe and later processed in the studio via his analogue arsenal of preference.
 
Displaying the many octaves of his craft through great spreads of high-impact club engineering and frenzy-whipping mechanics, Flug takes us on a pulsating ride across the history of dance music - taking cues from Detroit's own cosmo-telluric tramplers from back the Underground Resistance armada's heyday, the Roman scene's classic acidulous four-to-the-floors, Berlin's big-room-busting DNA, dredged with a hint of dubby exploratory manoeuvres a la Maurizio. Both mineral in strength but liquid in its flowing abilities, Lopez's newest extension into the deep and intricate realms of club music collages without pastiching, extracts without bleeding dry, forming the backbone to an assortment of cuts that shall awake the restless dancer in you with optimal effect.
 
If tracks like the lushly verbed-out 'Ephos' and 'Sequences From The Black Basement' perhaps best define the track collection's overall headspace, merging Flug's trademark melodic shine with further obliterating rhythms that are sure to lay absolute waste in their wake, others like 'Mars' and 'Hyperventilation' go straight for the jugular with their deadly mix of paced-up martial rhythmics and elliptical grooves gone amok. Just as easy steering the focus into further leftfield-friendly horizons, like on the droney 'Ratio', via the freaky acid-popping of 'Box In A Box' and ambitious width of scope of 'A Different Choice', Lopez delivers something of a life-affirming message with this choice selection of club-oriented delicacies; drawing as much inspiration and energy from the dancefloors Flug got to become intimate with, as he intends to reflect such inspirational forces and energies across the rooms.

Ross who has had some great success recently, having been signed to labels such as Suara, Sleaze and Elektrax has graciously provided 2 original Techno tracks, that certainly made an great impression on us. 'Cosmic Transcendence' is the name of the EP, and we are delighted to have him on the label. His 2 originals are raw, driven and cosmic, as Ross incorporates Techno sounds that seems as though are being transmitted from somewhere out in the galaxy, beaming down towards earth. He does a magnificent job in carving out his own place with his uniquely diversified sound in his 2 originals. 

On the remix duties, there is no shortage of talent on this one. We are proud to bring you Ukrainian DJ and Producer, the widely popular Yan Cook, remixing the main track Cosmic Transcendence. Yan goes straight to it, and keeps the momentum going with his brilliant remix. Following right behind him, we have Argentinian producer Juan Trujillo, as he completely smashes 'Back To Reality' with his powerful rendition.
