I would like to share with you my very first collaboration with #SCPhils member Sharm Nolledo. Since her Skinny Love cover, I have already been enamored with her sweet masterful voice. Meeting her in person is a joy because of her free-spirited nature. That's why when she invited me to do a collab, I just could not hesitate. =P

The arrangement I did here is very experimental. This is probably the hardest mashup I've planned so far. This was a challenge for me because of the pitch changes I had to do to accommodate my Sharm.

But after weeks of planning and recording, with the help of admin Kuya Jhun Azupardo, I'll say this project has been a success.

The Reason by Hoobastank and Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis. Two different songs in terms of genre, but same in terms of the theme of passionate love.

The Reason I Keep Bleeding Love (Mashup by Jerome and Sharm)

Mash-ups are more fun when done collaboratively.

It is an honor for me to share a soundcloud performance with iChan. I feel like our voices are kindred spirits: both sounding well in mid-range, slow melodious songs. It took some time before we actually came up with these song choices for this mashup. 

I hope you also appreciate the instrumental I did for this one. I know both songs are usually interpreted with a joyous and strong vigor, but we agreed to make this one simple and poignant; mellow and matriarchal, like how a parent would speak to a child about bracing for the challenges of the world outside.

This is probably one of the highlights of my stay in Singapore for the past 4 days. I met with talented Filipino music artists in that country and collaborated with them for a Christmas record. Of course, a recording session won't be complete without those bonding moments. Thank you very much for making me feel like I belong. Hahaha.

This mashup features three Filipino Christmas songs:
1. SA ARAW NG PASKO, which is very close to our #SCPhils SG friends' hearts because it is a song dedicated for OFWs which most mod them are.

[#SCPhils Singapore Christmas 2013 Mashup] Sa Araw ng Pasko, Magniningning ang Pilipino

Back in 2006, God gave me one of the most treasured gifts that validated me as a musician. ABS-CBN, through the Sharon Cuneta show, launched a Christmas Carol Writing Competition. The theme was about celebrating Christmas with a sense of family.

Out of hundreds of entries my song was chosen as one of the three finalists, and this song was interpreted by Erik Santos.

I think it's about time I released it again, a remastered one. And helping me out is my very talented friend Charvin Molaco who curiously sounds like Erik Santos. I am awed with the way he belts his strong notes.

This song is entitled "PASKO PARA SA PAMILYA." With Jesus our brother, and God our Father, there is no other way to celebrate Christmas with your family.

There are many reasons why I did a cover on this song:

1. Keiko Necessario is an amazing artist. She's like a Jewel and Taylor Swift Hybrid.
2. Keiko is an amazing girl. She's very bubbly and quirky. She could be the next "IT" girll but she stays modest and reachable.
3. Keiko is a rising star in #SCPhils. 13k plays less than a week? DUH!
4. Keiko was supposed to be my student in my Research Class with Mass Communication students 2 years ago. Unfortunately, she dropped her course before I even had a chance to be her professor. (Hey, If ever you choose to return, I’ll ask Ms. Mallari to make me your adviser and let’s do an #SCPhils research).
5. Connection is simply a breathtaking song. It talks about a love of many forms. Not just romantic. Not just motherly. The message is pure and distinct.
6. I really feel for the loss of her dog, Simpol. I have my own pet too, Sheldon. Even though these creatures make a mess of your life, their lack of morality just makes you feel so loved whenever you come home and run to you.

Together Again/Everything You Do Mashup [Various #SCPhils Artists]

It is with great pride for me to share this labor of love that we have crafted that represents this blossoming partnership that #SCPhils is having with #iGersmanila. While our group is a community of music artists, theirs is an equally fun community of amazing photographers and visual artists. And this February 2014, their sights and our sounds have been united.

This song, entitled "#ktgvr" or Keep the Good Vibes Rolling, describes #iGersmanila's values of appreciation of nature and society and camaraderie between members, as a way of spreading good vibes to all people who view their masterpieces. 

So when @edcalaycay, a moderator of #iGersmanila approached us to create a theme song for them, it didn't take too much for us to agree since GOOD VIBES is also a commodity we share in #SCPhils, through music and emerging friendships.

This is my version of Kian Dionisio's GABI. It is always an experience listening to this song. It's very simple to the ears, but jam-packed with ingenuity from the lyrics to the musicality. Kian is one of my #Scphils superheroes. =)

This song has touched so many hearts, especially those among the members of the #scphils. The fever on this song was so intense that dozens of SC artists made a cover of the song as soon as an instrumental was available.

I would admit that my strength in music is definitely not in singing. So, in the sea of the amazing vocalists who rendered this song, and the many instrumentalists who made various arrangements of the song, I chose to take on the song a little differently. So, there's this bersyonero challenge craze in SCPhils wherein a group of SC artists will have to cover songs from a single music artist or band and represent it using a completely different genre.

So, yes, the band of interest is the quirky and consistent Parokya ni Edgar (I've met Chito Miranda in Elements Camp, he's such a cool guy). One of the love songs from PNE that I really liked is PARA SA'YO. Ang kulit lang ng push and pull nung singer sa babaeng gusto niya pero ayaw niya saktan.

At dahil lately ako ay na-a-addict sa Postmodern Jukebox at sa classic RnB, hayan naging Motown ang kinalabasan. SORRY SORRY GUYS KASI TALAGANG NAG IBA YUNG LAPAT NG KANTA. Huhu. Pero sana you enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it.

This is my first Mashup in soundcloud: a joint cover of two of the more popular LSS-inducing contemporary rock songs by Snow Patrol and Green Day. This is tentatively titled: Chasing Cars when September Ends

The inspiration hit when I watched a Pinoy movie about secret affairs (waaah hulaan niyo).

I used flanger plugins for the piano so they would sound very closely to the haunting two-guitar-note strums in the Chasing Cars part. As for the polyphony of my voice, I used phaser and super reverb. 

I hope you guys enjoy listening to it as much as I was making it.

Chasing Cars/Wake Me Up When September Ends (Mashup: Piano and Voice)

Here's another mashup that I've been contemplating to do for a long time. Both songs are in 3/4 time.

First is one of my favorite song from Avril Lavine, one of my music influences in writing music when I was still a young teenager. The melody is haunting yet edgy.

Second is of course, the classic "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls, also one of my early favorites as I matured musically. Even though I still don't know what Iris means in relation to the song, the words and melody are a perfect match.

Forgive me for having a limited vocal range that made me resort to lowering down the key. These two songs aren't the easiest songs to sing. Also forgive me for the MIDI sounding instrumental.

I did a few experiments on this one. Flangers and phasers for the piano and layering my voice to give that choir effect.

Here is a mashup of two songs from one of my favorite OPM bands: Sugarfree. They sure know how to make great songs that don't only sound great, but also are very meaningful and touching.

These two songs that I've mashed up is, in my opinion, the most touching songs they've ever written."Tulog Na" and "Wag Ka Nang Umiyak" are songs that can speak to anyone: a loved one, a family member, a friend who we'd like to comfort.

John Mayer is one of my musical heroes. He has a husky voice, amazing guitar skills and a brilliant mind for songwriting. He was one of the sources of the background music of my highschool life. Your Body is a Wonderland is one of the sexiest songs ever written.

And in the not so recent past, Rihanna's We Found Love in a Hopeless Place. Wala lang. Trip ko lang yung sounds.

I tried doing a full band for this rendition with a little experiment on harmonizing the vocals. Hope you like it.

This song is supposed to be up for later, but since I am stricken with flu today and I can't do anything, I decided to finish this.

Ed Sheeran is a genius in lyrics. He's one of my "today's" music heroes. When I first heard The A Team, I just know I have to make a cover of it. And besides, my flu has a sort of sexy effect on my voice. Heeeheee.

Just like the Corr's Somebody for Someone, the song talks about girls involved in the oldest profession in the world. The songs makes the listener empathize with the pains these women go through to get by.
