“Fluid Meditations” marks DJ Gigola's debut album, set to be released on the 3rd of February 2023.
In eight tracks she explores shared aspects of meditation and the dance experience, fusing them into a new form of introspective practice. Gigola expresses her approach through the lens of guided meditation with spoken word. Lyrically, she traverses three aspects in particular: awareness of the now, embodiment and unfolding of the ego. Her work presents these themes chronologically ordered in a continuous mix. The very personal compositions deliberately juxtapose leading themes of a virtual world, such as anonymity, the restlessness of online interaction, and the physical disembodiment.
We are guided through this process by her voice, which DJ Gigola places against a background of low-pass frequencies, field recordings, breathing techniques and ASMR. These are synthesised with a warp of organic percussions, goa, and psytrance - creating a meditation practice that goes beyond traditional methods by decontextualizing elements of rave as a catalyst for Gigola’s own exploration of escapism. Quite fittingly, she will debut her album in a live set at the 18th birthday of Berlin escapist club “Berghain” on the 11th of December.

"Live From Earth" is proud to present the highly anticipated album "Løvehjerte" by MRD who has spent two years putting together a collection of 10 songs that showcase his signature sound. This album is a dedication to his journey as a writer and composer, taking influences from new wave, post-punk, techno, and pop music.

Drawing inspiration from his experiences and nature's beauty, MRD has imbued his compositions with a deeper touch, creating a beautiful and introspective album. The title "Løvehjerte" pays homage to the Astrid Lindgren movie "Brødrene Løvehjerte," which tells a heart-warming story about brotherhood and perseverance.
The themes of the songs are centered around experiences of breakups, lost friends, loneliness, new friends, and the constant pursuit of quality in life. MRD's melancholic yet captivating lyrics come from both real-life experiences and fiction, creating an emotional journey for the listener.

The album features collaborations with some talented artists who have contributed their perspective to the artist's sound. "TDJ" on "Memories Of You" was recorded in Canada, Montreal, while "Caiva" adds her beautiful vocals and saxophone solo to "Find My Way." "Narciss" also lends their magical production to "Midsommar," while the artist's good friend Kristoffer Scheie helped record the vocals and co-wrote the lyrics.

This latest work is sure to become a crossover sensation. Bridging the gap between Indie and Techno in a way only MRD can. MRD's album launch will be one of our highlights of this spring.

Lars Huismann returns to SHDW & Obscure’s Mutual Rytm imprint for the third and final part of his Sounds From The Past EP series. We premiere the effortlessly powerful ‘Bittersweet’ as Lars calls on mutated dub chords and galloping low-end for a no-nonsense techno weapon.

Berlin-based Lars Huismann has been a key cog in the Mutual Rytm machine since the inception of the label in February of last year. Lars returns for his fifth offering on the label, and his third solo EP as he signs off on the final Sounds From The Past EP of the trilogy.

Lars continues to push his sound through each release on Mutual Rytm, working closely with SHDW & Obscure Shape to achieve a forward-thinking yet vintage package of contemporary techno funk. Lars perfectly merges influences from the past with forward-thinking nuances of the future. Drawing on the early 2000 techno sound, he embellishes it with his own perspective, as evidenced by his earlier releases on the label. This latest six-track offering is another accomplished outing from this unique talent as he concludes the three-part series on the label in style.

We premiere ‘Bittersweet’ a raging techno banger that is running at full speed from the get-go. Lars maximises a tight and rolling dub influenced to loop its fullest, perfectly conveying that less is more in tool-orientated techno. Jolting low-end drives this raging bull-style techno-thriller, while sharp percussion shifts keep the groove organic and fluent. Another high-class offering from Lars on Mutual Rytm and you wouldn’t expect any less from a producer that is truly at the top of his game.

Writing about techno is quite difficult without falling into clich&eacute;: there are only so many ways that you can say something about a music whose core elements are forged on deliberate repetition; where real talent is attributed to those who can find the perfect groove where nothing needs added or subtracted to hold the listener's attention for upwards of five minutes. 

Such tracks are the hallmark of Tresor's catalogue, and this joy in repetition can be found in works from Detroit, Berlin, Birmingham, Edinburgh, and more. And it is through this lens that Parisian artist, UFO95, focuses his output, resulting in Backward Improvement, an EP that sits perfectly in the spectrum of techno found in the Tresor chronology. 

The title itself makes an abstract reference to the influence of the classics of the genre, inspiring him to take a distinct less-is-more approach to production for this collection of stripped-down yet unrelenting techno chiselled from the live set which has fixed UFO95 as one of the next holdfasts for the future of the scene. 

Perhaps it is the fact the UFO95 only performs live that had led to such crisp and focussed studio productions.; each of the tracks showcase the artist's burgeoning talent for creating the essential foundations of techno; perfect, looping, instinctual grooves that are counterbalanced by an apprehensive tension from off-key tones. 

Backward Improvement marks the addition of a new name in the list of techno's best producers and proves that while the genre may now be in its 40th year there are yet sonic explorations to be made and variations that are worth unearthing.
