Kim Cosmik started as a DJ with Sprial Tribe and Bedlam, playing at festivals and clubs all over the U.K and Europe as well as the legendary Knowledge Club at S.W.1, London.  
 
Kim Cosmik formed her own label, Void Records with fellow band member Blaze and in partnership with Hotmix / Bunker records in Holland and then Void was later signed to Matador EMI.  
 
Kim Cosmik also created a new alias, Siren and released drum and bass music with Blaze on Spectrum Audio / Alphamagic and also collaborated with Dj Damage with a track remix by Dylan.  
 
Kim Cosmik has played with many amazing artists such as Lory D, Leo Anibaldi, Colin Dale, Serge Clone, Aleksi Perala, Andy Turner, B12, Radioactiveman and many more. 
 
Kim Cosmik is currently a resident at Threads Radio, Techno Club, and her own event Hybrid which she launched in 2019. Kim Cosmik is currently releasing music through her label Cybersoul on Bandcamp as well as with a variety of labels such as Touched Music, Section 27, Bass Agenda, Urban Connections, Zwaartekracht, Diffuse Reality, Science Cult and 2020 Vision Recordings.

Which artists has influenced you the most?

- Prince, although I delayed making music because I thought I would never be as good as him haha.
 
What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- I have an album coming out soon and a my first collab in many years which I have really enjoyed. Also a few more releases and great events coming up!
 
Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- I would say all of the amazing labels and the artists that I work with. I love Levon Vincent.
 
What inspires you now to create music?

- Anything that affects or touches me, a person, nature, music by other artists. It’s the mood that inspires me to write a track or lyrics.
 
What set-up do you use when creating music?

- I use Ableton 10 with a Launch key, Launchpad Pro and Launch Controller. I also have a Emu 6400, Yamaha DX70 and a Mackie 16 from my previous analogue studio with former Void bandmate Blaze.

Strange But Dance Music #102: Kim Cosmik

For this month’s DETECT we are delighted to welcome @sybersymon.

A key player in the advancement of the ‘free party’ culture that ignited in the UK in the tail end of the century, over the past three decades his constant support and efforts have helped drive London’s underground music forward as a whole. 

Whether it was sonically through the exploration of his vast array of records - spinning to the fast-growing, vast crowds that flocked to disused warehouses across the capital in the late 90’s - or in the organisation of the events as a whole, Symon’s impact cannot be understated and is still very much felt today.

It was also there where his journey began with the Stay Up Forever crew, a relationship that is as evergreen today, recently releasing his latest EP ‘Virus’ on their label as well as playing on the lineup of their 30th Anniversary event at FOLD this past March. Additionally to themselves he has had several releases on top labels including Hydraulix, 99.9 and Ripe Analogue Waveforms (RAW). 

A familiar, welcoming sight in our halls and often sighted at an UNFOLD, he brings his unique blend of upfront techno, acid and anything in between to our DETECT series. This can be heard now, via our FOLD SoundCloud.

Just as the title implies Global Techno is our worldwide assault on the senses through crisp drums and monstrous synths. Represented on the compilation are artists from Holland, Belgium, Germany, America, Italy, Japan and Australia; quite a diverse crowd yet all sharing a common obsession for body-shaking bass.

GAMADON

Irish DJ and producer, Gavin Mac Donagh (aka GAMADON) runs the vinyl label, Warehouse Manifesto (WM), that has been based in London for the past three years and will be relocating to Ireland before then end of 2024.

GAMADON is also a member of the Electronic Convergence collective and has a monthly livestreamed show that is hosted on its YouTube channel.

Most notably, GAMADON played support act for The Prodigy, on their European tour in cities such as Berlin, Hanover, Prague and Luxembourg in 2015-2016.

Slated for a vinyl only release initially, Dusky invite Hodge and Jerome Hill to remix the rolling techno of “Parakeet Feet’ from their recent ‘Ordinary World EP’.

Part of the Livity Sound collective, Bristol’s Hodge has been responsible for some of the most fresh and leftfield UK techno excursions in the past year or so. Focussing on the original’s ‘talk to me’ sample, Hodge drops a dark, twisted techno banger in his unique style.

On the flip, underground legend Jerome Hill cranks out a raw, ravey acid house work out that builds and builds with a dynamic surge of screaming, layered 303s.

This is chopped from a mix of mine in 2003 so its before then.. I'd guess between 2001 and 2003.. I think it's from Belgium and the label was one of those Minimalistix/Subsounds type things, It was the B2 (or maybe A2)I had it on a promo and I remember the sticker was from the same company that used to promo all that stuff.. I have a feeling maybe Danny Casseau or someone from that end of things... Anyone have an idea which record this is from?

Old Studio Liveset, thought I'd put it up for all you old skool diehards.

Just my CD, it was released as a double pack with Myself and DDR on CD2, in about 1997 I think. You can download this one, I can't put DDR's up, You'll have to ask him if you want it, sorry abut that, but I have to save space.

The set was made in my studio in Brick Lane at the old Truman Brewery, which I always regretted moving out of. I had a lovely big room with huge windows looking over the side alley of the brewery and I ended up living there for a bit after we moved out of our house in Stamford Hill. Great area, I would move there again in a heartbeat. Even if just for the curry.

I did this set with a 66Mhz PC running Cubase Compact under Windows 95. I had one column of midi tracks in a 4 bar loop, my Akai S3200 sampler was loaded with vocals and drums and loops, these were all being played by the Cubase loops, The rest was hardware kit running in pattern mode synchronized to the PC by Midi clock, my Nord Modular was running drum synths and other patterns, The 909 doing the main drums, Two 303's with a bunch of different patterns, one doing basslines the other doing lead acid lines, The Sequential Pro One doing a bunch of random shit that I was just bashing into it and fading into the mix with delay and reverb FX on, and that was it. 

I ran through it once recording to DAT. The first 45 mins are completely live, then something went out of synch so I stopped and reset synch and finished it off. I had to make a little edit to join it back together, I was using Soundscape at the time for HD Audio so that took care of the edit and here's the final result.

These days this kind of thing is a piece of piss to set up on Ableton Live and you can do so much more with midi controllers now too, but 15 years ago it was a different story.
