About the mix: Discos of the 70s were intended to be safe and welcoming spaces for self-expression and celebration for queer and trans BIPOC communities, and the music played in these spaces would come to influence the innovators of house music. This mix focuses on house music’s queer roots in disco, with disco originals, edits, and current house tracks that reference these roots or otherwise feel “timeless.” Also sprinkled throughout are personal deep house fantasy favorites.

Tonights Somersault mix is Brought to us by PlayPlay with a live mix from the last breaking capacity set at Trans Pecos in Brooklyn 

“PlayPlay combines their penchant for percussion and bass with nostalgic samples & dreamy synths in both their DJ sets & music production. Their sound is inspired by years of clubbing, crate digging and the sounds they grew up dancing to - 90s club anthems, jungle, breakbeat hardcore, industrial, classic house, techno and old school hip-hop. With releases out on labels such as Sorry Records, Worst Behavior as well as a slew of self-releases and collaborations, PlayPlay has been slowly and steadily amassing a thumping discography over the years. Their most recent EP out on Brooklyn-based @SorryRecords has been described as “euphoric and joyous” (Untitled 909) and as three “springing, two step-inspired club tracks” (DJ Mag).

PlayPlay has spun at venues such as Elsewhere, MOMA PS1, Good Room, Jupiter Disco, Bossa Nova Civic Club and currently hosts Breaking Capacity, a quarterly party at Trans Pecos dedicated to all things breaks.”

Their sound is inspired by years of clubbing, crate digging and the sounds they grew up dancing to - 90s club anthems, jungle, breakbeat hardcore, industrial, classic house, techno and old school hip-hop. With releases out on labels such as Sorry Records, Worst Behavior and Clasico Records, as well as a slew of self-releases and collaborations, PlayPlay has been slowly and steadily amassing a thumping discography over the years. You can catch them DJing and throwing parties all over Brooklyn, as well as in their hometown, Durham.
