MISS JAY - WISH (INTERLUDE)

The 13th release of katharsis is the EP “Econet” by the artist 3320eco. Diverging a bit from the usual mellow ambient sound direction of the katharsis discography, the Danish debuting artist 3320eco brings a more club-oriented style of experimental electronic music to the label on this release. Throughout the seven tracks, the artist explores an array of classic and modern dance music genres including everything from early trance to bailefunk, trap and jungle.

On “Econet”, 3320eco draws on aesthetics from the 90’s PlayStation console games of his childhood, with the sounds of futuristic machines from high budget sci-fi movies like Transformers and Pacific Rim as the main inspiration for the sound design. Throughout the EP, the listeners are transformed into Gundam-like creatures soaring through the sky on tracks like “INKJET”, or walking through the deserted streets of an uncanny metropolis after an all-encompassing cataclysm on the outro and title track “ECONET”.

The artist states following about the release: “This record is a melting pot containing the over-the-top sound design of modern movies, references to video games and the sounds of dance music. It’s a collage featuring the best parts of subjects I find interesting and fascinating. It’s also a net of references to media I’ve grown up with, an amalgamation of my favourite things and concepts, resulting in music with some kind of cohesive expression.”

++ TINNITVS - A 5-YEAR ANNIVERSARY COMPILATION ++

In 2015, Club Late Music was created as an open-source music label, with the ambition to explore the production and diffusion of artistic contents by connecting artists worldwide into a network based on collaboration, sharing and mutual aid. It was quickly followed by the creation of the Global URL Nation in 2017 : a still growing community of artists, designers and enthusiasts willing to crystallize this idea into a tangible reality.

Five years later, after more than a dozen projects - from EPs and compilations to audiovisual pieces and installations, as well as many radio shows, live acts and club events - we are still more than convinced that collective action, togetherness and genuine openness are much needed guides to navigate our troubled times.

We are happy to celebrate this double anniversary with TINNITVS, a 12-track compilation made by members and friends of the Global URL Nation. With 24 artists from more than a dozen countries, it acts as a statement of our current mindset by presenting only collaborative tracks made by two or more persons. An embodiment of playful exploration and muti-faceted creation, covering a broad range of sounds and styles, from the lowest roars to the sparkliest ringing vocals.

As a reverse present to our supporters, as well as a way to explore further what open-source could mean in contemporary music production, the stems of each track are made available for anyone to use as they please when downloading the compilation. We hope this initiative will give birth to inspiring reworks and remixes, expanding the scope of the original tracks into new beings in perpetual evolution. We invite any contributions, from GUN members and beyond, to be sent to us in order to be gathered under a common project that will take shape in the coming months with the same mindset.

We are overwhelmingly thankful to anyone who has joined and participated in the adventure, as well as to everyone who has shown support in any way possible - from those who listened to our music to those who played it, from those who shared our content to those who involved us in their activities. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the continuous inspiration.

We still have a lot to learn and to improve, and we hope that this anniversary only marks a foundation to build upon. A basis that will allow us to keep further exploring sonic realms and visual wonders, as well as collective organization and collaborative processes.

The sixth release of katharsis is the EP, “Collapse” by waller & xato, two electronic musicians based respectively in UK and Greece. In these strange times of quarantining and limited travelling options, the two artists demonstrate on the EP, how we can find unity and peacefulness in music in the midst of the chaos and collapse.

This peacefulness is very vivid in all the tracks of the album, from the feeling of floating on a pink sky of emotional on tracks like “Doubtful Mercy” and “Crie”, to the felling of the autumn sunlight streaming through the colourful leaves of the forest trees on “Komorebi”, or even the cold feeling of the forthcoming winter on “Arctic Wolf”

On the other hand, the unity is demonstrated through the high level of communicative collaboration needed to execute a work like this through the online exchange of ideas and project files, which has been a big theme in 2020. The two artists state the following about Collapse:

“The EP came together slowly and unintentionally over the last year and a half - what started as Waller building from an early xato work-in-progress turned into a stream of ideas being sent back and forth and eventually narrowed down into a 3-track EP. The whole EP was made by raw emotions through the connection between distortion, psychotic euphoric and nostalgic progressions”
