I am biased as I played on it but this does transport the listener to the Mead Halls of our forefathers. Great composition.

The lyrics are the opening four stanzas of The Voluspa, an Old Norse Edda which tells of the creation of the world and how it will end.  

Samantha is an award winning singer currently studying at the Birmingham Conservatoire. 

Andy Glover is a composer, writer and music editor (http://www.andyglover.co.uk/). He made the lyre used in this recording and the accompanying picture is a photo of it.

'Falling Leaves' was commissioned by the Abbey Gateway Orchestra for their annual Christmas concert. The inspiration for 'Falling Leaves' came as I sat at the piano, gazing out of the window watching the remaining leaves being blown from the trees against a backdrop of grey autumn skies. The piece uses rising and falling motifs to conjure the image of leaves dancing through the air, buffeted by gusts of wind of varying strength. The woodwind are the primary feature in this piece, giving it a cold and melancholy feel.

Premiere: 11th December 2018 Wheathampstead Memorial Hall, Weathampstead, Hertforshire. Abbey Gateway Orchestra conducted by Martin Beach.
