Minneapolis-based 3 piece hip-hop band NO BIRD SING is set to drop their "DEFINITION SICKNESS" LP on November 12, 2013 via STRANGE FAMOUS RECORDS.

No Bird Sing combines the talents of emcee Joe Horton, drummer/producer Graham O'Brien, and guitarist/producer Robert Mulrennan. With "Definition Sickness", the trio has maintained the integrity of their live-band roots while exploring a more produced sound that ranges from stark minimalism to lush expansiveness. The first video from the album, "And War", examines the central decision faced by citizens of an empire in decline: cling to dying ideas and anesthetics or resolve to experience a disquieting reality with more depth and clarity?

Set in a near-future America, the video follows one man through a derelict city as he encounters LED-clad jackers, underground auctions, and users of a mysterious, opiate-like drug. It's clear that the man is searching for something, but neither he nor the viewer has more than a faint sense of what that might be. "And War" presents viewers with a vision of America only slightly removed from their own, asking them to view their own declining empires, both personal and political, with new eyes.

The Headshots "Compensation" Tape (Vol. 3) was the first in the series to include actual songs from the Headshots crew, rather than just live performances like the two previous tapes. "Compensation" featured three 4-Track recordings from ANT's basement studio, a.k.a The Factory, including Beyond's "Cash Is Expensive" and two Atmosphere songs; "Mathematics" and "Vowel Movement". 

We decided to share "Vowel Movement" in connection with our new YouTube video series, "A Moment In Rhymesayers", which is celebrating 20 Years of Rhymesayers history through exclusive interviews and rare footage from those that lived it.
Episode 3 of "A Moment In Rhymesayers" covers the first three Headshots Tapes; Vol. 1: "WBBOY Sessions", Vol. 2: "Arrogance" and Vol. 3: "Compensation". In this episode, ANT, Slug and Siddiq discuss what inspired the idea for the Headshots Tape series, as well as how each of those first three tapes began and developed.

FACTORIA

The ruins of the failed city of Factoria lie under Saskatoon, SK, the hometown of producer extraordinaire Graham Murawsky (aka Factor Chandelier). Just prior to WWI, Chicago entrepreneur Robert E. Glass ventured north with dreams of building an elaborate industrial city in a formerly typhoid-riddled area with all the trappings that progress would afford. But before his development plans could come into fruition, war and the inability to secure electrical power turned Factoria into a ghost town. Inspired by the obscure story of the Magic City that never was, Factor Chandelier has crafted an album that pays homage to Factoria and wonders what could have been.

On Factoria, Chandelier’s follow-up to the 2013 concept album Woke Up Alone, he builds a city of expansive beats that bang with punishing drums and industrial clatter at one moment and exude a melodic, pastoral calm the next. The sounds shift on the album in accordance with the hope that the city began with and the wartime entropy that engulfed it. Recorded and mixed by Factor, the album incorporates the bass of Enver Hampton, violin and guitar from The Pxrtals, and guest vocals from Open Mike Eagle, Awol One, Ceschi, Gregory Pepper, and Myka 9. 

What may have driven Glass to Factoria is a desire to create something in his vision, to build an idyllic city where people could settle and seek their fortune amongst a serene central Canadian backdrop. On the same hallowed ground, Factor has built a decade and a half worth of beats for indie rap cult heroes from all over the map. Augmented by his chemistry with artists he has worked with for years, Factoria is a beacon illuminating the streets that paved over the ruins of the Magic City.
