This is Cornbread's first single from their upcoming EP release Six for the Weekend.

Lead singer Jesse Lipscombe and trombonist Audrey Ochoa have been gigging around Edmonton together for seven years in 12-piece funk-jazz outfit Retrofitz and its pared-down incarnation, the Lean Machine. Feeling creatively stifled performing cover show after cover show at corporate gigs and wedding receptions, the pair decided last summer to form their own band, creating original music that defies categorization. Lipscombe and Ochoa began penning tunes that naturally favoured latin, reggaeton, R&B and hip-hop, while embracing the huge horn sounds that felt familiar and invigorating. The result – a collection of tunes that eventually became their EP, Six For The Weekend – motivated the musicians in a way that singing other people's songs simply could not. Lipscombe and Ochoa played their first show as Cornbread in October at the Garneau Theatre's Culture Collective, winning over audiences with Lipscombe's charismatic stage-presence, Ochoa and her twin sister Ali's trombone-baritone brass section, plus a fleshed-out live outfit that included guitar, bass, drums and keys. Their signature song, Cornbread Twist, had the house spilling into the aisles and singing along to the hook. Since that first show, Lipscombe's cousin, Jasmine Petrin, jumped on-board adding supporting vocals and sultry harmonies. Cornbread's second show is Saturday, May 2, at the Citadel, and their Six For the Weekend release show follows May 16th back where they began – at the Garneau.
