WATCH OUT BELOW (TEASER)

An experimentation started using a few iOS music production apps (Beatmaker 2, Vio), then mixed in Logic Pro 10.1, with a few additional effect (Sonalksis Creative Filter, FabFilter Pro-Q 2, Isotope Trash, and Don't Crack Retro Limiter on the Master Channel).

Your World (INSTRUMENTAL VERSION)

UPDATE (17/Jan/2017) - Yep -- had to make a few more adjustments (it's a process :-)), this time primarily in an attempt to make the vocals more prominent in the mix. However, I also took the opportunity to make a couple minor production edits.

UPDATE (28/Aug/2016) - Yep -- had to do it once again! Another mix, LOL! :-0 Never realised what a pain that original mix was. :-/ Think I finally got it this time, though! :-)

UPDATE (7/7/2016) - I decided to do about a dozen minor edits to the song structure and re-mix the various song tracks in the process.

The song was created on an iPad using iOS apps. The Intua Beatmaker app was used for most of the production, including vocal recording and processing. Various additional apps (DJay Pro, Sector, Samplr) were used to create transition edits and glitch f/x.

Audio stems were transferred from the iPad to a laptop via the Audioshare and Dropbox apps. Mixing was performed using Logic Pro X. Additional f/x were limited to some filtering (Sonalksis Creative Filter) and dynamic processing (Logic stock compressor, Apple AU multi band compressor) on all stems and some vintage tape delay emulation (Logic stock plugin) treatment on some sound effects. Oh, yeah -- and a dose of Isotope Trash 2 here and there!

Here's my take on #Bahamian #Junkanoo #music reimagined for the #21stcentury ! :-0

I did this one totally in #Apple #Logic Pro X. The rubbery-sounding arpeggiated #synth line is from the #LennarDigital #Sylenth synth plugin. The sub bass is from #Cakewalk #DimensionPro . The high synth is from the #RobPapen #Predator synth plugin. I also used #FXPansion #Geist , #NativeInstruments #Kore , and #AudioSpillage #MiniSpillage for #drum and #percussion duties.

#Izotope #Ozone7 on the master bus.

From the Top (INSTRUMENTAL)

[ANOTHER] UPDATE (14 July, 2017) - A slightly faster tempo this time around, with some additional effect processing to certain sounds and other minor mixing edits.

UPDATE (28 June, 201&) - I wasn't satisfied with the original mix, so I tweaked it a bit and uploaded a new version.


I decided to with a bit of a summer vibe with this one. :-)

All #instrumentation and #vocals were originally recorded on an #iPad using the #Caustic #Studio  and #AUM apps. I recorded the vocals into the iPad using a #Zoom #H6 #multitrack recorder. The #VoiceRack:FX app was used as an vocal insert effect in AUM for an #autotune type treatment. 

I performed all of the #lyrics as an #impromptu #single-take. 

All #audio #stems were then exported via #Dropbox and imported into #Propellerheads #Reason 9.5 on my #laptop for #sequencing and #mixing. In Reason, I added some more vocal processing via the #HY-MBMFX #plugin. Additional processing was limited to #compression via the #Cakewalk RE-2A Levelling Amplifier rack extension.

This song was #experimental in many ways. First, the #project gave me a chance to test out the Zoom H6 as a #recording front-end for my iPad. I was also able to familiarise myself with Reason again. Most importantly, the song provided an #opportunity for me to try out a few mixing #workflows in Reason 9.5, including the exploitation of the new #VST #feature.

Love Me

I'm still working at mastering my own music and I approached this track as more of an experiment in that vein than as a compositional effort.

Child's Play (INSTRUMENTAL)

I started this one using the #Caustic #iOS music production app before completing it in #Propellerheads #Reason 9.5.

The song is more consistent with the dark 'sound' of a number of my productions. I've tried to place particular emphasis on the mor technical aspects of the song (i.e. mixing, mastering) to achieve a more consistently commercial audio levels for a more polished sound, while still retaining the characteristic grit and edge that tends to typify my work. :-)

The song has been produced as a template track for lease or sale for further vocal production but perhaps it may even stand on its own as a complete recording.

9/Nov/2017 - I've uploaded a new file mastered using the IKMultimedia T-Racks One plugin module. I was doubtful at first but One replaced a mastering chain of at least 8 other plugins! 8 to 1! LOL! :-0

Soft Target

I wanted to go for a more classic 'boom-bap' hip-hop sound on this one, but with including more current production elements as well.  The vocals are my own (processed mercilessly :)).  The track is intended to be aggressive -- perfect for any hip-hop vocalist seeking to establish (or affirm) his or her supremacy -- FIRE!!!! :-0

Don't Make Me

The names 'Jesse' and 'Tal' are taken from the names of the two grandparents that I never met. Both died before I was born but everything that I've been told about them leads me to believe that their personalities have somehow influenced my life (and particularly my creativity) even more than the grandparents that I actually did know during my lifetime. 

I've always been interested in music and the process of making music.  My interest developed over the years from just listening -- to mixing/d.j.-ing -- ultimately, to producing my own tracks.  I consider my style to be 'urban' in nature, incorporating most modern, international music genres (e.g. pop/hip-hop/rnb/dance).  My music has at times been called 'dark' or 'cinematic' and I consciously go for a more edgy, less-polished feel.

I have a computer-based setup and mainly sequence my music using Apple Logic Pro on a MacBook Pro laptop.  I've also used Digidesign Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Propellerheads Reason and Record, and Renoise.  I still use Live and Reason occasionally -- as well as Native Instruments Maschine.  I'm a big fan of virtual instruments and effects and own more than 1,300 plugins in various combinations to get the desired sound in each case.

WARNING: I am not a vocalist, so any of the pieces here with my own vocals should be considered for reference purposes only.  :-)
