Bliss Mix

For this set, I tried to encapsulate a sense of freedom. Freedom flowing between genres but also throughout time periods to create an uplifting, euphoric, feel-good mix for summer enjoyment.

So much recent inspiration has stemmed from early ‘elevating’ house, amongst the likes of Tin Tin Out, Tocayo and Red Jerry. Yet recent works from progressive artists such as Clint, Spray, Alex Kassian and Adam Pits help to inspire bouts of mysticism, and definitely helps in filling out the low ends over some of the older tracks featured. Job Jobse, Maara, Angel D’lite and Eoin DJ have really inspired the soundscape.

The first entry in the PowerHouse series, mixed by series creator Jesse Blake. I’ve been aiming to create and develop a style blending the boundaries between fun and feel good house, euphoric complexities of progressive house and an abundance of selections from the late 90s era. I’ve really enjoyed the focus on the journey of a mix, which I’ve tried to weave in through the hour (+some) of listening.

A massive inspiration for this mix is one of my all time favourite mixes: Angel D’lite at Lente Kabinet Festival 2023. It perfectly soundtracks a summer day and takes you on a blissful sonic journey.

I wanted to try create a similar voyage and vibe in my own mix. The mix takes a trip through time opening with a few progressive house tracks in the 90s and finishing with some newer sounds and recent releases in 2024.

I have been obsessed with the 90s prog house sound especially tracks with piano and euphoric vocals. I think this mix perfectly showcases that style and it has inspired me a lot to want to produce my own music aligned with that sound. 

Some artists i’ve been listening to of late are Clint, The Trip, Cybernet and Match Box. I’ve made sure to include some of their tracks in this mix as a sign of appreciation of their sound.

My aims and goals with this mix were to bring happy and joyful. I’ve been DJing in Geelong/Djilang for a couple of years now, where I got my start at my favourite venue Captain/There There playing house and disco house, and have been branching out, just recently playing a few shows at bloom and dive bar mixing my fav UKG sounds.

But lately I’ve been going back to my roots spinning a lot of disco house, with some big inspirations for me lately in terms of house tracks would be Folamour, CC:DISCO!, Jitwam, Tama Sumo & lakuti.

Ryheem Invites Ft Dj Pill - 15 August 2024

Application mix from Jesse Blake for the Strawberry Fields DJ Competition, celebrating their amazing achievement of 15 years on the Murray. So much inspiration for my mixing and sound has stemmed from attending the Strawberry Fields over the years, from the beautiful landscape to the amazing performances that come with it. Thanks strawbs and PBS 106.7FM for the opportunity.

For this mix, I've tried to envision how I would open things up, trying to incorporate the euphoric complexities of progressive house for a smooth start, and delving into some fun PowerHouse towards the tail end of the set. Paying homage to tunes from recent artists Alex Kassian, Maruwa, and Jex Opolis as well as past producers Tocayo and Rozalla.

Spreading his infectious selection of progressive dance throughout Djilang/Geelong, DJ Pill has established a name playing creativity and experimental sets in notable venues around town.  Will also hosts the Dazie Collective, an amazing platform fostering a love for community  and growing the underground music scene in Geelong/Djilang. This space is used to spread passion for dance music, in hopes to inspire people to be unique with their musical expressions.

Channeling from a vast selection of 90’s inspired, housey and progressive tracks this mix blends together summer day party vibes with deeper late night dancefloor tunes. Creating a blend of groovy dance to would keep music lovers booping regardless of where they are listening

For #6 we are welcoming Geelong/Djilang’s own DUK., who has supplied a succession of bouncy and high energy house and tech-house selections. Finding studio time to record a PowerHouse mix while overseas, DUK. has called upon many inspirations from acts seen at ADE. 

My goal for this mix was to try and craft a mix that selects tracks from various genres to keep the listener interested. Channeling the energy as we approach festival season, I wanted to make something that would be played out in the open-air that brings nothing but fun energy. I started getting booked about 2 years ago, where I’ve branched out to play at venues such as Captain, Bloom, ONESIXONE and Side Selection. 

I’ve also started producing my own tracks, with a recently released demo and numerous other releases on my Soundcloud. Recent inspirations for this mix, and my sound in general include L.P Rhythm, Sydney Charles, Denis Sulta and Archie Hamilton.

As we enter festival season in Melbourne and having just attended A3 Festival last week, I’ve been inspired to create an energetic house mix with the open air and afternoon breeze of the A3 stage dance floor still fresh in my mind. 

As usual I’ve blended sounds from the past and present keeping things trippy, sexy and fun. Expect chunky prog, 90s house gems and some bouncier hard house. 

My favourite thing about DJing is using mood and environment to challenge and shape my signature sound in any context. I draw inspiration from artists who I think have nailed their versatility, such as Paramida, Hannah D, Roza Terenzi, and THC. 

Music has always been a big part of my life. Some of my happiest, most memorable moments have been experienced on dance floors across the world so my goal as a DJ is to hopefully create experiences like that for others!

My aim with this mix was to showcase my versatility with mixing and more of a modern take on house music. To me, a ‘euphoric feel’ means pushing the electronic side of house music as EDM will always be my favourite genre. I love breaching boundaries with my mixing so thought it would be pretty fun to incorporate electronic vibes into a house mix. Each track in this mix is harmonically in key with the next, allowing for smooth & fluid listening. The mix graduates into some feel good energy in the second half before coming back down to what I find to be a more calm tone to finish off. I find myself constantly mixing various genres together in both my sets & production which is super fun.

My production has gained the support of some notable artists such as Boys Noize (someone I have looked up to as an artist for a long time), Bad Boombox, Justin Jay & Joe Hunt. Meanwhile, I had a very fun 2024 with supporting artists such as THELMA, Laura King, CRTB & Gina Demarchi. I was also lucky enough to support Ben Hemsley at Bloom a couple weeks ago too. I’m currently still finding my certain sound and style but really enjoy learning and taking parts from different genres and blending them. In terms of production, two people I’ve been inspired by recently are Willaris. K & Sam Alfred. I am super excited to see what 2025 has in store for me.

This mix is all about capturing them feel-good vibes of a summer day party. I’ve included lots of fun housey tracks that I’ve been digging —packed with M1 pianos, acid lines, uplifting vocals, and even a few breaky bits for good measure.

2024 was a super inspiring year for me when it comes to music. I saw some of my favorite sets to date (Fantastic Man playing at Mount Vesuvius being a standout) and have included some tracks from those moments in this mix as a nod to those memories.

Lately, I’ve also taken the plunge into producing music, drawing heavily from the sounds and styles featured here. It’s been an exciting challenge, and I’m working hard to refine my skills with the goal of releasing some of my own tracks in 2025!

Right now, I’m especially inspired by artists like The Trip, Aldonna, Known Artist, Roza Terenzi, and Andre Zimmer. Their work has been a huge influence on my creative process

For this mix, I really didn’t wanna take myself too seriously, I just wanted to dance in the sun and play some of my favourite feel good tracks, and that’s exactly what I did! My decks at home are set up in front of a glorious afternoon-sun window, so it was nice to play in this setting compared to a club setting.

I’ve really enjoyed the last few years DJing, and while it hasn’t been very long, I feel like I’ve both learned heaps and drastically improved too. I think what inspired me to begin this journey was a real passion for the many facets of electronic music, and wanting to be able to explore and share my favourites to those dancing.

I’m inspired by a massive amount of “things”, from my environment, to those around me, as well as a huge number of artists from a super wide variety of genres and backgrounds, but I think I really wanna shout out some of my favourite producers and DJs: Surusinghe, Haai, Octo Octa, Sarah Sommers just to name some, shoutout to some sick women!!!!

The scene we have in Geelong artist-wise is genuinely unreal! So lucky to have so many amazing people mixing some seriously cool stuff. But we need people to go to all of these events, not just the big headliners. So go down and support more local artists and events, because your next fav DJ might just be from Geelong!

Hi, I’m Benkei! I’m a DJ and producer, immersed in music since I was little, and my passion for mixing was born at Macadam in Nantes, France.

Since 2020, I’ve been attending sets of DJs and collectives who have influenced my style and shaped my strong personality. I draw inspiration from a big mix of 90s techno and house blended with trance and Eurodance. This explosive cocktail of diverse sounds creates an atmosphere that’s both nostalgic and modern, carefully chosen to make you groove. 🕺🪩

My desire to make people dance led me to co-create an association promoting events and individuals: Trop Dar Label. We organized a festival in the Nantes region of France. There were three editions during which I played some amazing, energetic, and danceable sets (available on my SoundCloud). 💿💫
