Bliss Mix

For this set, I tried to encapsulate a sense of freedom. Freedom flowing between genres but also throughout time periods to create an uplifting, euphoric, feel-good mix for summer enjoyment.

So much recent inspiration has stemmed from early ‘elevating’ house, amongst the likes of Tin Tin Out, Tocayo and Red Jerry. Yet recent works from progressive artists such as Clint, Spray, Alex Kassian and Adam Pits help to inspire bouts of mysticism, and definitely helps in filling out the low ends over some of the older tracks featured. Job Jobse, Maara, Angel D’lite and Eoin DJ have really inspired the soundscape.

The first entry in the PowerHouse series, mixed by series creator Jesse Blake. I’ve been aiming to create and develop a style blending the boundaries between fun and feel good house, euphoric complexities of progressive house and an abundance of selections from the late 90s era. I’ve really enjoyed the focus on the journey of a mix, which I’ve tried to weave in through the hour (+some) of listening.

It’s such a pleasure to have Poynstar opening the PowerHouse guest features. He’s treated us to selections of elating and progressive tracks which continues to show his ability to create an immaculate feel - here’s what he has to say:

A massive inspiration for this mix is one of my all time favourite mixes: Angel D’lite at Lente Kabinet Festival 2023. It perfectly soundtracks a summer day and takes you on a blissful sonic journey.

I wanted to try create a similar voyage and vibe in my own mix. The mix takes a trip through time opening with a few progressive house tracks in the 90s and finishing with some newer sounds and recent releases in 2024.

I have been obsessed with the 90s prog house sound especially tracks with piano and euphoric vocals. I think this mix perfectly showcases that style and it has inspired me a lot to want to produce my own music aligned with that sound. 

Some artists i’ve been listening to of late are Clint, The Trip, Cybernet and Match Box. I’ve made sure to include some of their tracks in this mix as a sign of appreciation of their sound.

As host of the incredible mix series and platform LSDJ!, broadcasted at Québec City’s CHYZ, Lex continues to spread her quality sound (+ the sound of many others) far and wide. My aims and goals with this mix were to bring happy and joyful. I’ve been DJing in Geelong/Djilang for a couple of years now, where I got my start at my favourite venue Captain/There There playing house and disco house, and have been branching out, just recently playing a few shows at bloom and dive bar mixing my fav UKG sounds.

But lately I’ve been going back to my roots spinning a lot of disco house, with some big inspirations for me lately in terms of house tracks would be Folamour, CC:DISCO!, Jitwam, Tama Sumo & lakuti.

Ryheem Invites Ft Dj Pill - 15 August 2024

Application mix from Jesse Blake for the Strawberry Fields DJ Competition, celebrating their amazing achievement of 15 years on the Murray. So much inspiration for my mixing and sound has stemmed from attending the Strawberry Fields over the years, from the beautiful landscape to the amazing performances that come with it. Thanks strawbs and PBS 106.7FM for the opportunity.

For this mix, I've tried to envision how I would open things up, trying to incorporate the euphoric complexities of progressive house for a smooth start, and delving into some fun PowerHouse towards the tail end of the set. Paying homage to tunes from recent artists Alex Kassian, Maruwa, and Jex Opolis as well as past producers Tocayo and Rozalla.

We aim to promote local and emerging artists, from all corners of the globe. Showcasing different styles of mixing and genres each month. This is an ongoing show on the 4th Friday of each month at 12-1am (BST) 9-10am (AEST)

Every month we will host an artist from different sides of the hemisphere. Bridging the gap between Australia and the UK, while also sticking directly to our name AuuK – AU / UK.

August is upon us and we're back to the homeland with a local Djilang legend. This guy is well acquainted with a good prog beat and has been climbing the ladder within the Geelong and surrounding areas music scene the past year.

Jesse Blake, hailing from Geelong / Djilang, is a DJ who blurs the lines between punctual progressive house and powerful, uplifting house. A sound that takes you through feelings of bliss and elation. Supporting the likes of Guy Contact, Solar Suite, Mabel, Harvey Sutherland and Black loops. Jesse is the host of a recently created mix series called PowerHouse, which provides a spotlight for emerging artists to share their take on a euphoric and fun style of mixing.

This mix explores deeper progressive areas to put you in the twilight zone, with segments of elating house throughout the journey - the sounds of PowerHouse.

Spreading his infectious selection of progressive dance throughout Djilang/Geelong, DJ Pill has established a name playing creativity and experimental sets in notable venues around town.  Will also hosts the Dazie Collective, an amazing platform fostering a love for community  and growing the underground music scene in Geelong/Djilang. This space is used to spread passion for dance music, in hopes to inspire people to be unique with their musical expressions.

Channeling from a vast selection of 90’s inspired, housey and progressive tracks this mix blends together summer day party vibes with deeper late night dancefloor tunes. Creating a blend of groovy dance to would keep music lovers booping regardless of where they are listening

For #6 we are welcoming Geelong/Djilang’s own DUK., who has supplied a succession of bouncy and high energy house and tech-house selections. Finding studio time to record a PowerHouse mix while overseas, DUK. has called upon many inspirations from acts seen at ADE. 

My goal for this mix was to try and craft a mix that selects tracks from various genres to keep the listener interested. Channeling the energy as we approach festival season, I wanted to make something that would be played out in the open-air that brings nothing but fun energy. I started getting booked about 2 years ago, where I’ve branched out to play at venues such as Captain, Bloom, ONESIXONE and Side Selection. 

I’ve also started producing my own tracks, with a recently released demo and numerous other releases on my Soundcloud. Recent inspirations for this mix, and my sound in general include L.P Rhythm, Sydney Charles, Denis Sulta and Archie Hamilton.
