We'd gotten the EastWest Symphonic Orchestra software suite on our work computer. My orders were to screw around with it and learn as much as possible. This is one of the results of that.
Not planning on finishing this, but it was a fun little exercise.

What Am I Doing It's So Late

Meh, this is my rushed final project for my Electronic Music course. After a whole semester of struggling with faulty mice and non-intuitive DAW controls (please don't make me use DP8 again), I was able to come up with something almost presentable. There are some very, very obvious flaws (oh my god that clipping vocal in the middle) but I think it's good enough to get me an A in the class. Hopefully!

I've also always wanted to use this particular vocal melody on this chord progression, so that's a plus too I suppose.

So I'm pretty excited to get into this thing called WeeklyBeats again. For those of you who don't know, WeeklyBeats is an online challenge for musical artists to publish one original track a week, and encourages users to listen to and comment on others' music submitted every week.  

I've got a few more tracks I'm currently working on, and I'm hoping my work'll be a lot more refined this time around.

Started this track in May for some reason, and have recently been inspired to finish it up. The bass line serves as the melody for this track, but let me know how well I did at that. The synth settings I used for it produce some unpredictable results sometimes.

Unfortunately, I got a little lazy this week, so this ain't really a full-featured track. It's more of a train-of-thought experiment (hence the name) to see where my gut reaction tells me to take the song next, given a time restraint.

I might do more of these in the future as an exercise, since this was kind of fun and I like what I'd been able to come up with.

This is a remix I did of a beautiful piece by a musically talented friend of mine. He doesn't normally do electronic stuff, but what he does publish is phenomenal. I wanted to work with the chords and vocals for this song and see if I could do somethin' just as cool with 'em. But that's up to you to judge!

Hey there! Really sorry I haven't been releasing tracks lately; school and stuff have been a little rough recently.
Here's a piece I did as a submission for Sapporo International Art Festival's Urban Soundscape Competition! I realize that it's not so much a soundscape as it is a song with numerous background samples in it. That being said, I approached this in the best way I know how, and I'm happy with how it turned out.

(Below is the 250-word summary I wrote up for the entry. It's super pretentious, but I think it makes me sounds like I know what I'm talking about.)

"Cycles" is a short piece that reflects upon the modern-day coexistence of nature and people, and is influenced by sounds from both the urban and the organic. The piece as a whole is ornamented with numerous theme-based samples, intricate countermelodies and polyrhythms, and neat, crisp percussion. Above all, this piece aims to be catchy, and provide easy-listening atmosphere in a meaningful way.
The first half of the piece is marked by simple piano melodies arranged polyrhythmically and a flowing string quartet section, played over an upbeat synth chord progression. Sounds of life, from a restless outdoors to a bustling city crowd, can be heard in the background.
This is followed by a short buildup to the second section, which exposits the second section's driving chord progression. One minute and twenty-eight seconds into the soundscape, the piano melody counts its beats and takes its pitches according to the sequence {1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21} (the first eight naturally-occurring Fibonacci numbers, with "1" = one eighth note = scale degree 1). This oddly syncopated melody conforms well to the vi -- IV -- I -- V chord progression.
The last section brings back the "bustling city crowd" section and represents it with comfortingly jazzy piano chords offering closure. The soundscape ends cyclically with a callback to the simple melody from the beginning of the piece.
The sound logo paired with this piece harmonizes the bustling crowd and forest samples to signify the theme, and ties it together with the beginning piano melodies.

Been working on this for a couple of months, trying to tweak it to perfection. It still has some major flaws, but I hope you enjoy it nevertheless!

Here's my first track for WeeklyBeats 2016, and for this year!

This track is about struggling with apathy and inactivity, and wanting to get back into the flow of things. It's something that happens to me with my musical endeavors, and it kills me because I'm always composing in my head (whether I want to be or not) and I don't want to let my fans down. For the last five years the technology that I use has been both the conduit and the bane of my creative efforts, and I've not progressed to the point that I wanted to be right now. This year I want to train harder, and let the tools be an extension of myself rather than a roadblock.
