Hello friends!!! Happy Hector is now 9 years old - September 2006 was when the band was formed (during that year's "Medlive" - UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery's annual battle of the bands).

After all this time, we finally got to record some of our original songs - songs we did during med school, clerkship, internship and residency. Recorded everything using an old MacBook. Tracks layed-in everywhere from "The Dungeon" and Mike's apartment in Sampaloc, Manila to my house in Imus, Cavite, to Prague and a bus ride to Nuremberg, Germany. All tracks mixed in my bedroom, my car, band mates apartment, hospital on-call room/bathroom.

At dahil 9 years old na kami, share na lang namin sa inyong lahat ang mga nagawa naming kanta. Sawa na kaming pakinggan na kami-kami lang eh. Hehe! Enjoy!

10-31-2016. Non-working holiday. No hospital duty for me. Stayed at home to rest and do nothing. While having breakfast, I heard the son of our housekeeper humming a tune. He is an 18 year old from Quezon Province who taught himself how to play the guitar. His guitar, borrowed from a friend, was a dilapidated piece of wood, with cracks all over most of its remaining body. The action was very high and it was very hard to play. It was not intonated, and at times, there were notes that were impossible to play but he was able to churn out chords and produce a nice sound. His voice was very simple - as raw at it can get. Hearing only a part of the song, I continued my breakfast. After eating, I went back to my room, got my dreadnought and tried out the chord progressions he was doing. Ideas poured, guitar riffs came naturally and I decided to call him to play his whole song for me. I lent him my cheap strat and he was so amazed to hold a “playable” guitar. The lyrics of his song were that of young love’s heartache, with sincerity written all over it. As he played, I heard the arrangement inside my head. I quickly set up the mic and went on to record a guide track. Track by track, with no plans or whatsoever, we completed recording his song in 2 hours. 

Here it is - Hesrhon’s first recording. Amateur, yes, and original, of course. This song has never been recorded or heard anywhere else. The song opens with Hesrhon's voice, as if speaking right in front you. No effects, just raw voice. Imperfections, though present, makes the song work. The song gradually builds up as the rest of the rhythm section comes in one by one. The first chorus comes to and end with a grand interlude where the electric guitar takes main stage. My musical influences were clearly heard throughout the song (with Silent Sanctuary, Happy Hector and RIco Blanco riffs all over the place). Listen to the lyrics, you can even hear the Quezon "punto" (listen to the word "iyong"). Kept it that way to preserve the authenticity of the song. 

Captured the moment and recorded it for him - so that he may be inspired to do more, and for me as well. Thanks to this kid I remembered why I got into writing music in the first place. Writing music, is after all, all about honesty, putting your heart out for everyone to see (and hear), not caring about what people think. Hope to hear more from Hesrhon in the future. Enjoy!
