“Era una fría mañana de Junio, me encuentro en el parque del centenario, un parque urbano en el plano de Arica, realizando grabaciones de campo para el proyecto “Mapa Sonoro de Arica y Parinacota”, en ese horario se pueden escuchar diversas especies, como Chincoles (Zonotrichia capensis), Picaflores del Norte (rhodopis vesper), Águilas (Generanoaetus melanolecus),  Cernícalos (Falco tinnunculus), Paloma común (Columba livia), Tórtolas Quiguagua (columbina cruziana), entre otras especies. por suerte la costanera que bordea el parque tenía muy poco movimiento y todavía no llegaban las familias, ya que era un domingo de día. Así  que arme el equipo y puse a grabar al micrófono zoom H3vr que realiza grabaciones ambisonic (esfera 360°) y en ese lapso de tiempo de grabación , volaban alrededor entre el follaje de los árboles una colonia de tórtolas.
En la grabación se pueden escuchar tres tipos de vocalizaciones, llamados generales, llamado de atención y vocalización de enfrentamiento entre machos. La vocalización de las tórtolas es muy interesante ya que las personas que no conocen la especie creen que es una “pequeña rana croando”. Mientras grabo el audio solo me queda sentarme, respirar hondo y disfrutar del ambiente."

Gato del Desierto (gdsf.cl) (Arica, Chile), Manuel M. Figueroa (Gato del Desierto), nacido en la ciudad de Arica, desde muy pequeño gracias a su madre, comienza por el amor a las Artes, las tradiciones y la conservación. Fue fotógrafo de danza y arte, con exposiciones en Chile y Perú. Comienza en el área de sonido el 2016, y el 2020 crea el proyecto de Mapa Sonoro, el año 2021 participa en las transmisiones de Tsonami Radio (Chile), en el 2022 participa en el Festival Sur Aural (Bolivia) y Festival Asimtria (Perú). Actualmente sigue con nuevas fases del mapa sonoro y comienza como investigador sonoro.

Mi Cosa de Resistance is Buenos Aires, Argentina based artist Fernando Perales, who has released with labels including Elm, Rusted Tone, Minimal Resource Manipulation, Aural Tethers and his own imprint ‘Hissful Tapes’. Fernando was also the spearhead behind the various artists album ‘A Speechless Body’ which we released on Whitelabrecs in January 2022. Within the line-up of artists included in this project was Ciro Berenguer with whom he has collaborated for this album.  Ciro also originates from Argentina, hailing from Rosario but for the last couple of decades, he has lived in Barcelona, Spain. Ciro’s music has been released on labels such as Dauw, Eilean and Slaapwel. He has also collaborated with Ghost and Tape (Heine Christensen) as Sokkyo.

This collaborative album between Mi Cosa de Resistance and Ciro Berenguer is entitled ‘El final de las lluvias', which translates to ‘The end of the rains’. It is inspired by moments of transition; in the Mediterranean they know Spring has ended and Summer is approaching once the rain subsides. This may be the title of the album and but one example, yet the broader theme of the album is to mark the end of something, and the beginning of something else.

There is a balance of these artists’ respective styles and inputs, in an album adept in presenting light, dark and melancholic moods through its many shades. It’s a space in which their musical personalities can live alongside one another as one, with Fernando’s hints of darkness placed alongside Ciro’s music box compositions and recordings of bicycle rides through the suburbs of Barcelona. It draws in experiences of pre and post pandemic life, from the viewpoint of two populous cities, and its blend of blurred naturalistic-leaning tones sit, decayed, against an urban bedrock. At times optimistic, at times despairing, El final de las lluvias was finished in Spring 2022 as these artists emerged from a 2 year period of life, learning to deal with the challenges of the pandemic. This record, a document, marks the conclusion of one phase, and the beginning of something else.

a few years ago I had access to the cottage spaces for several days, resulting in one of the pieces for the ‘audible silence’ project (https://engravedglass.bandcamp.com/album/audible-silence)
I attached some of my c-series contact microphones to the table next to one of the windows that also displays the well known pebble circle. I listened for an hour or so, the sound of traffic through the table and the floor, and some of the curatorial staff coming and going
(a fade in and out is the only processing or editing involved)

I'm posting these particular recordings to highlight the low frequency response capable with the c-series contact mics. Frequencies down to 10hz can be detected. All digital recorders have a 10hz limited installed that can't be turned off without hacking the recorder.
