I wrote this fun piece last year that was inspired by Bach's Badinerie from Suite No. 2.  Thanks to Josh Plotner for the wonderful playing on flute as well as Maria Grigoryeva on violin and viola and Tony Rogers on cello.  And me on MIDI harpsichord 🙂

Gigue In D Minor

This is a short sample of the piece I just finished for my supporters on Patreon.  A few months ago one of my patrons suggested I create a piece based on something from the Song of Solomon.

This reminded of a passage that Roberto and I used for our wedding, which has to be one of the most romantic passages in the whole Bible.

My Beloved (sample)

This is another Patreon song I wrote back in April.  It's based on a poem by Edna St. Vincent Millay.  I hadn't really heard of her before, but I found her poetry browsing online and found it very direct and honest in dealing with very universal themes so I thought it would translate well to song.

Especially this one, which I originally imagined in a blues form, but as you can hear I did not stick with that.  I had a lot of conflicting ideas when approaching this one.  I do have another draft that is a little closer to the blues form (with vocals and a string quintet) that I'd honestly like to complete someday too.

But my very simple idea with the version that stands complete before you was to ONLY use sounds from this new piece of equipment I purchased recently.  And I almost stuck with that.  Everything you hear comes from the elektron Digitone except for my upright piano.

I originally imagined keeping the entire song more upbeat as a contrast to the lyrics, but I couldn't help but wear my heart on my sleeve at some points and I'm also growing enamored with the sound of my upright when the keys are covered in different sorts of fabric.  I love all the little extra noises and creaks that come from mic'ing it extremely close.
