In 2012, some friends of mine on Facebook and Twitter made me aware of an “Old School DJ contest” being held by syndicated radio host Michael Baisden.   The finalists were going to be flown to Dallas to compete live for a winner-take-all contest for a cash prize and to be the DJ for his birthday party.  I wound up missing the entry deadline but listened to some of the mix entries as he played them live on his show.  I’m not big on downing other DJs but going strictly based on what I heard, I kicked myself for not being more timely in my submissions. The rules, as simple as they sound, provided a bit of a creative challenge.  There were to be 3 separate 10-minute mixes of old-school: house, R&B, hip-hop, etc.  I really do have a “lotta damn records” so the challenge for me was to be able to select and weave a handful of REALLY GOOD songs within a 10 minute span (10 minutes goes by QUICKLY!) showcasing my DJ skills/personality with minimal-to-no scratching, absolutely no DJ drops and absolutely no talking on the microphone.   Basically, they wanted to hear that you can actually DJ without the benefit of technology.  I’ve been DJing for over 2 decades – before the technology so it made it a fun project for me and evened out the score if this was to be judged fairly. Now in 2013, I’m being made aware again that Baisden is having this contest – and I’m being told that I more or less “better” enter this year because they know I can win this.   Adding that battery to my back and coming off missing out last year, I try to knock it out the park.  I did my 3 mixes all in one night.  No more than 2 takes on any one of them.  I’m feeling VERY confident that I will get a callback.  Except…..Baisden’s show gets canceled the other week!!  *cue up The Price Is Right Loser music* Ah well, so much for that!  But as a measure of thanks, I wanted to share the SECOND mix I completed with those of you who have and continue to support me.  I don’t DJ for a living or for fame, I do it purely for the art and the love and the history. While surfing Souncloud, This so Call "DJ Fresh P" stole my mix that posted on my site years ago. I find that funny, but give credit where credit is due. I love the fact that it did so well... lol....  
Note: This was recorded in early 2000′s before Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson’s Passing. 

New Jack Swing or should I say “Swang” Mix. Super producer, Teddy Riley, is credited for creating this genre of music that changed the game. With this new sound, he was one of top producers for artist of the 90′s era. As a member and producer for his group “Guy”, along with fellow members Arron Hall and his brother Damion Hall, They manage to create a new style of R & B with there self title album “Guy”. The album went Triple Platinum in 1988. With the success of the New Jack Swing along came the copy cat producers, AKA Dr. Dre, trying to tap into this pot of gold, but that was not Dr Dre’s style. Later down the years, it was Dr. Dre’s turn to shine with his Gagsta Hits and production. Teddy Riley produced many recording artist in the 90′s including The King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Dangerous remains the most successful New jack swing album of all time with 32 million copies sold. Just a little history of New Jack Knowledge. With that said, here is my New Jack Swing Mix. I know it sounds cliché, but I actually got interested in "DJ'ing" after watching the movie "Juice".(Tupac, Omar Epps..) Not too long after, I withdrew money from my savings & bought some used stanton Belt-drive tables and radio-shack mixer. Growning up, I was always intrigued by mixtape of other DJ's. Listening to music mixed smoothly from one track to another was lot better than the usual pressing of "next track" button on a CD player or FF on a tape deck. But, I could never find the mixtape or mixes of stuff that I liked 100%. So I started Dj'ing to make mixes of what I like to listen to.  Years later & after many equipment upgrades, I'm still in the mix. 
I make mixes that people around me enjoy, but most importantly, I mix music that I enjoy. If my style is up to your liking, glad I can share these mixes with you. If this isn't your cup of tea, I'm sure you can find someone that plays your style of music on soundcloud. =) Enjoy!!!!
