Release notes: 

Almost seven years in gestation, Verdant Compost is finally ready to enter the public consciousness on Earth Day, 2017. A mammoth undertaking larger than any previous remix projects I've attempted before, Verdant Compost collects six discs of reconstituted Verdant Acre source sound, produced by a long and talented list of craftsmen from all over the world. 

The first four discs are sequenced sets of mixes, and the final two are themselves full-length album affairs by Zwei Kreise and Orson Throb, respectively. From deep and dubbed out techno to thick, textured drones, and everywhere in between, Verdant Compost casts a wide range of colors, temperatures and atmospheres, all built using source recordings from the same damaged vinyl sides and drum machines I used to create the original six volumes of the Verdant Acre series. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the many talented musicians who took part, in order of appearance:

The box set comes with six special glossy 4x6" photographic prints, mutated and reconfigured from the original Verdant Acre photography, housed comfortably with the six discs inside a VHS-tape sized black plastic box that matches the recent Verdant Acre reinstatement and the ambient companion Verdant Night.

Cuando Javier Torres Maldonado me propuso escribir una pieza para piano, percusión y electrónica me alegré mucho de poder volver a incursionar en el mundo sonoro de la tecnología al cual he llegado desde hace muy poco tiempo.

Podía imaginarme texturas y colores en la percusión y en la cinta pero siempre me he sentido incómoda con el piano, tal vez porque fue mi instrumento. Decidí entonces concentrarme en la exploración de dos elementos: los puramente rítmicos, granulados -que en el piano aparecen con la preparación del registro medio-, y la resonancia. Estos elementos se entremezclan, se funden y confunden entre los tres participantes. La electrónica nos da la oportunidad de sentir el sonido en movimiento, de sumergirnos en él y de dialogar con la realidad y la sombra del sonido, no sólo desde lo que ahora llamamos “cinta” sino también desde la propia amplificación de los instrumentos que nos permite escuchar sus resonancias recónditas.

Malgré la Nuit, inicia con mucha energía y va hacia la desintegración total. Empleando muy pocos elementos, como en prácticamente toda mi música, busco la simplicidad y la fuerza a pesar de la noche.

Las cuatro semanas que pasé en Niza trabajando en los estudios del CIRM, con Mónica Gil hicieron de este trabajo una de las mejores experiencias que he tenido en los últimos años. Muchas gracias a su director François Paris y a todos los que trabajan en el CIRM.
