Miles From Being Perfect

Having been exposed to the art of DJ-ing through friends, Nabila had always been enthusiastic about decks and mixers. What started as a playful experimentation on turntables turned into a serious hobby soon after.

Always one who is driven to take her passion further, Nabila began training under Royale DJ Academy in 2006 to develop the technical aspects of DJ-ing. With her eclectic taste in music, ranging from the funk of Jamiroquai to the punishing bass lines of Yoji Biomehanika, and the rock edge of Weezer to the syncopated beats of Pendulum, it is undeniable that such influential sounds would have served to hone a big appetite for a diverse range of genres.

After an early interest in the banging tunes of trance and hard dance, Nabila gradually found her niche in playing deeper, progressive sounds which allows for possibilities and imagination to be endlessly played out. This is, without a doubt, a perfect complement to her other passion in filmmaking.

Known among her peers for having bags of creative energy and a daring spirit, it didn’t take long before she carved a niche as one of the country’s few female party spinners. Nabila was awarded the Choons Award for Best New DJ in 2008/09 and named Best Female DJ in 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12 consecutively. She joined the OMP Entertainment repertoire of DJs and performers soon after, gaining her more traction in the local club scene.

Being one of the very few female DJs who play purely house music, she scored several golden opportunities to warm-up for House legend Mark Farina, DJ/Producer Sonny Fodera and appearing alongside Janette Slack in an all female collective Queens of Hearts. She also brought her groovy beats to Koh Pah Ngan Full Moon Party 2011, Future Music Festival Asia 2012 and recently, Songkran Festival 2012 After Party in Bangkok.

Citing influences from Random Soul, Jask, Mark Farina, Miguel Migs, Jamie Lewis and Sandy Rivera, you can be assured of a fun, house-infused dancefloor the next time you catch her on the decks.
