On a recent trip to Vancouver Island, I got to witness for the first time waterfalls crashing down from the cliffs and straight into the ocean.  It was quite an impactful experience, and became a metaphor for life in general and motivated this song.  Some things only blend for a short time and then go their own way, not meant to be forever.
