‘Soft In Shape And Meaning’ is the brand new double album from the post-rock, electronica collective, Jilk. Available exclusively from Bandcamp on pink and pistachio green sandwich cassette, with artwork made from the found, captured and processed photography of Jake Greenwood.

“We wanted to make an album without fear. A cathartic exercise in blending post-rock, jazz, glitch, noise and electronics. Finding those spaces where genres meet and melt. Unashamedly our favourite instruments, influences, techniques and sounds.

The process started with Cags and Neil jamming out 4 tracks in a church. Those pieces in of themselves make a brilliant EP (one day). We took them away and started to develop them and the ball rolled on from there.

Pianos were recorded on phones, mangled guitars through borrowed mics, brass played quietly at nighttime, live kits played through MPCs, tiny ribbon delays jammed, improvisation where possible! Mistakes embraced!!

Monolithic walls of noise, jazz drums under microtonal glockenspiels, slow-sad collage guitars, cut and paste glitch breaks, jungle sample packs, black metal, out of control feedback loops, the nicest amp tone we could find, blankets of strings.

This is our first self release cassette and our first double album. It's also the first time the tracks appear in roughly chronological order, mapping our journey through the writing process. Each track a reaction to the last. Both parts joining together, all symbiotic and gigantic. Silly music.

Some difficult times and sad news are sewn in.
