We begin Episode 115 in the wilds of Madagascar with ARCHAEOINDRIS FONTOYNONTII.  From there we move to the EXTINCT GIANT LEMUR a close cousin of our original fellow.  Both were kinds of MEGAFAUNA that used to roam the earth until wiped out QUATERNARY GLACIATION or last ice age as it’s known in POPULAR CULTURE.  From POPULAR CULTURE we learn about the EVERYDAY LIVES of people or at least what one Wikipedia editor deems “non-negotiable reality.”  From the huge animals that used to roam the earth to the mundane of our daily lives this episode really gives you some perspective. #115 - Archaeoindris Fontoynontii, Giant Lemur, MegaFauna, Ice Age, Pop Culture & Everyday Life!

All aboard!  Or should it be all are bored.  We kick off this episode with THE GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY WAR MEMORIAL for WWI in England. SNOOZE.  From there it's onto PADDINGTON STATION also in London and the terminus for the first unground train. Then we move onto a real titan of engineering ISAMBARD KINGDOM BRUNEL who placed second in the list of 100 GREATEST BRITONS.  A list that was highly controversial as there were no Black Britons no the list.    So a campaign was initiated by Patrick Vernon to create a poll of the 100 Greatest Black Britons and on that list MARY SEACOLE was voted number one.  She was what many consider the first nurse.  She and FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE revolutionized patient care.  FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE was into DATA VISUALIZATION and completely revolutionized the field of statistics, giving way to INFOGRAPHICS and ISOTYPES.  Long story short, nurses have and will continue to change the world!

We kick it off with PATRICK FRANCIS HEALY, who was a JESUIT.  And the JESUITS are a type of Catholic and Catholics love MARY, MOTHER OF JESUS.  Mary’s been known to show up time to time in many recounted MARY APPARITIONS.  A notable sighting was OUR LADY OF ZEITUN.  Some scientists think the apparition was a result of EARTHQUAKE LIGHTS.  WE’re going to leave it you to be the judge on this, our 117th episode!

We start with the world’s most formidable nerd, FARRAN ZERBE.  A coin collector or NUMISMATIC he studied money and other types of currency like CIGARETTES in prison.  And from there we head on over to JAZZ CIGARETTES or JOINTS which got their name from the OPIUM DENS of yesteryear which had their heyday in the US during the GOLD RUSH.  Which instead of the folksy prospector being the first image that pops into mind when thinking GOLD RUSH, it should be the horrific CALIFORNIA GENOCIDE committed by the government on native peoples’.  From studying coins to studying what depraved depths humanity will sink to have access to gold, this episode teaches a LOT!

We kick it off with Mariah Carey’s Video Album from 1993 HERE IS MARIAH CAREY.  From there we move onto fabulous set designer BORIS ARONSON who got his start in YIDDISH THEATRE.  And we slink from the theatrics of the stage to the drama of a well thrown party, as we learn about MASQUERADE BALLS.  And what was the most iconic masquerade balls of the modern era?  Truman Capote’s BLACK AND WHITE BALL in 1966 at the Plaza Hotel. It was so inspired that INA GARTEN paid homage to its menu in one of her episodes of the Barefoot Contessa.  From the whistle tones of Mariah to the decadence of the mid 60s this episode is a bonafide soirée!

History is disgusting take for instance the 1838 JESUIT SLAVE SALE.  Horrendous.  Instead of being enslaved the Jesuit's should have granted these enslaved peoples' MANUMISSION.  Members or Roman society who had been granted MANUMISSION were called PLEBEIANS and they contributed to the OVERTHROW OF THE ROMAN MONARCHY.  When looking through history there is one thing that is certain, those in power will do everything not to lose it.
