Monolithic

The third solo album from a music composer and also a member of a cinematic instrumental music band, Anoice, Takahiro Kido.

This album includes 10 lovely instrumental tunes which were used in films such as 'Tsukiji Wonderland' directed by Naotaro Endo, which won an award on Japan Movie Critics Award, TV shows from the BBC in UK and Animal Planet in US, and commercial adverts such as Google and YAMAHA. This is a gentle and at times nostalgic album that features lovely melodies made of natural instruments such as a piano, guitar, and violin, which is then accented with electric sounds.

When You're Not Around

A few weeks ago, I took you back to 1979, to a song I did alone, just me and a guitar in a room never intended for recording, done with a stereo system and cassette deck, one old Shure 58 mic. To my surprise, the response has been heart- warming! It has had more plays the any other of my songs. Well, I unearthed another in my archives, same date, same place, same room. It also has been converted from analog to digital, as is, which doesn’t leave much wiggle room for production, so what you hear is what you get. The tune is called “Riddle ‘n Rhymes” and it’s a statement about how I came to look at life at the time of it’s original complete writing, 1972, in Vermont. I was 30. Looking forward to sharing another solo write from my archives, one that’s hard to put in a clear-cut genre. I hope you enjoy a bit of history! Thanks to all of you who responded so kindly that first dip that far back in time! I wasn’t recording much then, so it’s rare! The original lyrics will be included in this post.

1.    Well it looks just like a problem if you picture it that way.
      And you got to admit it makes you feel real weird
      And it all works out okay.
      So I’m askin’ you this riddle, just to see if you recall
      If life is a hall, and time is a wall
      Where you gonna hang that picture, mama, 
      When there ain’t no time at all.

2.	It looks just like a red light if it’s the only one you’ve seen.
        You got to look both ways before you go,
 	You got to let that light turn green.
	So I’m askin’ you this riddle, Just to let you know the score
	If life is a store and time is the door, then
        Where you gonna get your credit, mama, 
        When it ain’t open no more.

3. 	And it looks just like a put down, when you slip and put it there.
         I know that my words can be turned and twisted, 
         ‘til it looks like I don’t care.
         So I’m askin’ you this riddle, just to hear you called by name
         If life is a game and time is the same, then
         Where you gonna point your pistol, mama, 
         When there’s no one else to blame.

        And if you let it be known you need the insurance,

This Time Of Year

“5th Generation Warfare” is a southern gothic protest anthem that blends Appalachian soul, swamp-rock grit, and gospel fire. Written and produced by Donald E. Pickett, the track exposes the invisible war fought through information, control, and psychological manipulation — a conflict without soldiers or borders, but with every soul caught in its crossfire.

Set against a backdrop of thunder, drones, and bayou echoes, the song carries the raw honesty of the mountains into a new battlefield — one where faith and freedom stand as the last unbroken front. The soundscape rises from slide guitar and Hammond organ into a gospel-infused outcry, a warning and a witness to a generation tested not by bullets, but by belief.

Both haunting and defiant, “5th Generation Warfare” is a hymn for those who refuse to surrender their spirit to the system — a song of resistance carved from the southern mud and sung through the static.
