The title track of my latest EP ‘A Dawn Yet to Rise’ is a gentle finger picked song which features Olly Lewis’ reverb enhanced vocals in its closing outro/coda.

With sensitive, hopeful and yearning lyrics, interspersed with thoughtful classical guitar motifs/melodies throughout, its atmosphere and arrangement are very much of the pastoral and in line with the timeless traditions of the classic singer-songwriters.

Written and recorded in my home studio in the Autumn of 2021  ‘About Us’ and ‘A Dawn Yet to Rise’ will only be available as a physical CD release and as an exclusive download on my Bandcamp page.

‘But Then Came Snow’ is Jim’s final release of 2022.
Inspired in part by the ghost stories of M.R James and the tales of The Brothers Grimm, the song is set in the isolated wilds of a foreboding winter and tells of a woman whose mind has been forsaken. She pleads with her husband to ‘not let her go’ but this statement isn’t about him leaving her, it’s a cry for help to alleviate the inner turmoil of her declining health. The production is sparse and it’s atmosphere dark and brooding, perfect for a cold and eerie December evening sat by a fire.

‘To Hold You in My Arms’ is the latest in a line of independently released, significant singles and E.P’s that have secured radio play on many folk and acoustic stations across the country and the World.

It is a meaningful love song born out of gratitude to his daughter and how she changed his life, focus and purpose. When she was born, as the lyrics describe, she was ‘the answer, the moonlight in my veins and the reason that I changed’

The single shares how becoming a father brought about an immense shift in who he is as a person and tells of how ‘holding her in my arms’ began a new chapter in his life, gave him the strength and commitment to look after her, keep her safe and be the man he was always destined to become.

Accompanied by James Toll on beautiful soaring violin, To Hold You in My Arms was recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Jim in his home studio in early 2023.

Review of 'There's Nothing Like Your Love' by Adam Jenkins on the Folk and Acoustic website 'Fatea'

Jim Chorley has been around the music scene for quite some time, popping up in venues and festivals and often stealing the show. Up until now he's always been somewhat below the radar, and those of us who have "discovered" him feel like we have this magical secret that nobody else knows about. It seems it is time to share him with the rest of the world however, as There's Nothing Like Your Love is just the start.

The new single is quintessential Jim Chorley, filled as it is with both heart and soul. Jim pours himself into his music with a passion that bleeds into every note. Each song is genuine, as if every single one has been lived, and not for nothing was his previous release called Honest and True. There's Nothing Like Your Love has a couple of other talented musicians performing too; Neil Valentine's viola playing adds even more emotion to the mix, and Rob Parsons (who is both a great folk player and a beautiful boat builder) plays the mandolin.

Recorded at Hightown Studios in Southampton, produced by Matt Salvage, and mastered at the legendary Abbey Road, the new single is a small leap forward for Jim Chorley. To put that in context, the leap is all about the production values, as opposed to the quality of his song (which never dips below excellent). There's Nothing Like Your Love is an exciting statement of intent, and on this form, the promise of further new releases to come is thrilling and tantalising.
