Jim’s first commercial release was “Drop the Funk” under the Primo moniker in early 2004 on the Soulfuric offshoot label deVice. Drop the Funk reached number 3 in the Hype chart, receiving support from the likes of Roger Sanchez, Miguel Migs and Copyright. On the back of this track, Primo was asked to remix Off the Cuff’s “Shake” on Soulfuric Trax by Head Honcho Brian Tappert. Following mentoring from Brian Tappert and Sam Holt (Copyright), Primo further developed his sound to create the horn-drenched "Cuban Blues” which made its first appearance on Defected in The House’s Wax Wars in 2005 before its official release on Soulfuric Deep in 2006.

It was during this time that Jim met co-producer, DJ and long-term friend Silky, forming Seminal Grooves. Thanks to Jim’s production skills and Silkys’ mentoring by close friend and House Music Legend Frankie Knuckles, Seminal Grooves enjoyed releases on labels such as Realbasic, Dae Deep, Soul Tonic, Reelgroove and Housepacific. 

Jim became a dad to 3 gorgeous girls and the Seminal Grooves project sat on the back burner for some time. Silky went on to have with releases on My Favoutite Robot and Nervus Records before forming label “Faceless Recordings” with Nelski and Climbers. In a recent blog interview in The Independent, Silky cited his formative years with Jim as helping him develop his production skills.

Jim has enjoyed collaborations with chillout artist and live sax player John McGough (Atticmonkey Recordings), releasing several tracks on the ‘Café Del Mar’ and ‘Made In Ibiza’ labels under the “New Beginning” and “Nouvell Vedette” Monikers. To date, their track “Another Day” remains Jim’s most successful commercial release selling over 250,000 copies worldwide and now with over 1.1 million hits on YouTube!

Jim is slowly starting to release tracks again. After producing the James Arthur Project’s “Superman”, last year also saw the Primo Mix of Koru’s “Hear Me” alongside remixes from others including the awesome Carl Cox. Expect more to come very soon….
