The brief for this song was to "Write a song. Record on your phone. Submit." I cheated a bit and used my Tascam recorder (well, two of them) but then pretty much left the recording alone other than a bit of reverb.

The brief for this song was to "Use a field recording in your weekly song. You can use an exisiting one or record your own." I didn't really 'use a field recording' in the traditional sense, rather replicated the Tascam recording style of last week but outdoors on The Downs. Listen for the hum of traffic, and the passing motorcycle!

The brief for this song was to "Complete 1 page of free writing for 3 days in one week and use that material for your song." Most of my free writing was horrible, but there were enough snippets of hungover misery in the third day's work to form the genesis of this song.

Peppermint Tea

The brief for this song was to "Write and record an instrumental." This was a real challenge for me as I usually keep the guitar parts to my songs quite simple, and focus on the lyrics and vocal melodies to add colour. I chose, rather than to throw the kitchen sink at this one, layering up lots of parts, to try and record a single performance on acoustic guitar with no overdubs. I was playing around with an Am9 chord and got the sound I was looking for by chucking a capo on the fifth fret.
