»Techno is a genre of electronic dance music (EDM) which is generally produced for use in a continuous DJ set, with tempo often varying between 120 and 150 beats per minute (bpm). The central rhythm is typically in common time (4/4) and often characterized by a repetitive four on the floor beat.«

Well, that's what Wikipedia says about »techno« - but can Laura BCR's music simply be called »techno«? We say it's much more than that. The French DJ and On Board Music label founder who took her name from the much-loved and now closed, Berlin record store, Bass Cadet Records, started to produce her very own music in 2020. Music which could easily fit in her transportive, deep techno and dubby ambient DJ sets. Sets that have brought her to some of Europe’s finest venues.

After her releases on SoHaSo, Semantica, Paloma, RDV Music, Technologia Organica or Sublunar we're happy to present to you her latest work for Live At Robert Johnson: »Human Behavior«.

The four tracks all share a deepness which is typical for a lot of her productions so far. This is repetitive music, yes - but also very atmospheric music. Whether it's the helicopter sound in first track »Farewell« which Laura put on top of layers of whirring synths sounds or the swelling and decaying sounds of »Long Wait«. Sounds which swallow you deep into their core and make you forget about the here and now. Yes, Laura's music is hypnotizing - and it has a certain psychedelic quality attached to it as well. This aspect of her music can be heard quite good in »Post Dynamic« with its electronic blowing wind sounds galore. Or in »Human Behavior«, the title track of Laura BCR's LARJ debut. Yet Laura never forgets the importance (and the power) of the bass drum and its four on the floor beat.

A beat that is the heartbeat of techno. And a beat that defines Laura BCR as well.

Now all hail the bass drum and all hail Laura BCR!

The Swedish label Dirty Hands strikes back with double force. This motor driven techno 12” is hard to hide from. 

Label boss Per Hammar says ”When Patrick gave me this track, I played it in every set for 3 months. When he later told me that he hasn’t found a home for it, we said in choir ‘let’s do a Dirty Hands release out of it!’, and after that moment, all my previous plans for the label was deleted.”

With Patrick’s ruthless original combined with Per Hammar’s jungle sounding edit on the flip, this release isn’t anything but a key into the producer duo’s minds.

Not without good reason is the motto of this year's Cocoon Ibiza season "Into the Magic", as the sun-drenched Balearic island is steeped in a special enchantment. So, with great enthusiasm, the team around Sven Väth apply themselves to the 13th season in Ibiza, and you don't have to be a prophet to predict some historic club nights at the Amnesia. Also the acoustic 'warm up' in the form of the Cocoon Ibiza Summer Mix CD, established in 2007, makes your eyes glow intensely with excitement this year, as Cocoon was able to get Cassy and Joris Voorn doing the mix, two absolute DJ highlights in this season.

It's no less than three times that Catherine Britton aka Cassy is present in this year's Ibiza line up (e.g. at the Season Opening and Closing). For more than ten years, the multi-national Berlin resident is an essential part of the global Tech House scene and can look back on many releases on Perlon, Ostgut Ton, Playhouse as well as her own label Cassy. Her DJ style is characterized by an intensive and groove-accented mixture of reduced rhythmic elements with a certain intuition for warm and sensual Soul, which got her residencies at Berlin's Panoramabar, the Rex Club in Paris or the Trouw in Amsterdam, and already totally excited the audience on her 2009 Cocoon mix CD "Simply Devotion". In her current set, Cassy dives deep into the magic of Dub House: with a stunningly deep delay wonderland, "Kaimanawa" by the Swiss Cavalier aka Agnes sets a distinctive exclamation mark, right at the start of the mix, while the percussive "Put That Record Back On" by DJ Dan in the remix of Peace Division remains committed to the traditions of US Housetrax and "Cortometraggio" by Alfredo Caforio and Gianni Sabato aka Rush? applies a very literal sense to the name of the French label Bass Culture. Apropos Bass Culture: Cassy's favourite producer at the moment, Mr. G (former member of The Advent), embellishes the track list with three jewels: with tropical House deepness ("New Dayz"), the Kasper remix of "Sunday Blues" and at the end of the mix with tribal Subsonic Jazz ("Lex") and thus gives CD1 a more than precious finish.

An open artistic approach is also what the Rotterdam-born DJ and producer Joris Voorn shows on the release. Since the beginning of the 2000s, Voorn stands for an inspiring alliance between European club traditions and the aesthetics of Detroit Techno, and thus won the hearts of Technasia, Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier and Sven Väth. At least since his 2010 club anthem "The Secret", Voorn is an essential part of the musical memory of Ibiza. His set elaborately intertwines a total of 30 (!) tracks by, among others, such well-known producers/remixers like Oxia, John Tejada, Guy Gerber, Samuel L. Session or Radio Slave in his own inimitable way to an artistic Gesamtkunstwerk which illustrates the aesthetic bandwidth and deepness of modern electronic dance music in a superb way. Constantly altering the tension, Voorn draws the line from Lawrence's melancholy and emotional sound sketches ("The Swan") or Matthew Dekay & Lee Burridge's "Für die Liebe" via the sensual-percussive Dub House of Microtrauma's "Pollenflug" and the groove-accented "Acid Jam" by Rhauder from Berlin right up to the grand final with a tropically-dense cover version of the Derrick May classic "Strings Of Life" by the British producer Astro Fram aka Soul Mekanik, who has also worked with Robbie Williams. There is no better way to pay homage to the Balearic island's magic.

Jimithesun - This historical italian DJ since the late 90's is an eclectic artist that in his long career held various roles, like founder of several record labels (Digital Traffik his main), like radio speaker on Ibiza Global Radio, like recording studio owner (Contacto Studios Venice) and like organizer of important events in Italy and abroad (IUM - Ibiza Underground Movement his latest world tour). 

Jimi has always been a great lover of music, art collector and of course musician (he's out as producer also with different nicknames like "AudioHell" and "Audiosun" in labels like 8BIT, Snatch!, Monza Ibiza and more). 

Jimi has been playing in the best Clubs around the World since 1998 with regular dj-sets in Tresor Berlin, Movida London, Mazoom Le Plaisir, Space Ibiza (for which he also mixed 2 official compilations) and, of course, with more world Tours in Arabia, Europe, Asia and USA.
