Biography: 
Kostas Staikos (aka Substak). Greek electronic music producer, was born and raised in the city of Athens. The start of his journey into music began at 2011 when decided to escape a bit from real life & started mixing and producing. His music genres include: Ambient, Dub, Dub Techno, Minimal & Minimal Techno. Over 14 years of production, Kostas has released more than 200 releases on various thematic labels.

This time, Kostas is back with a new conceptual mix, recorded only from our label's tracks.

DUBBISM SPECIAL #282 - Substak

Substak

For over 20 years Martin Jarl was something of an anomaly in my record collection. At the turn of the century, I was largely buying records on the likes of Deepchord, Salz, Nurture, Bluetrain & Minus THX. I'd also been following the emergence of some labels pushing the more minimal sound for a couple of years, the likes of Out to Lunch, Playhouse & Raum...musik. After the closure of Atlas in Soho I habitually shopped in Smallfish; and I remember adding Martin's Weetabix EP to the listening pile. Upon hearing it I immediately bought two copies, and for the next two decades considered it one of my 'desert island discs'. 

By 2024 both copies were hammered and full of surface noise, and what started out as a tentative ask for some wav files, turned into an opportunity to re-release a track from one of my favourite records. Frankly I could've gone for any of the four tracks. Whether Martin knew to what extent or not; including a remaster of the title track in last year's V/A compilation was a really special moment in lempuyang's journey. Naturally I also asked him if he'd be up for recording a mix for the series. Martin is anything but prolific, and good things truly come to those who wait.

Biography: 
I am DJ and producer based on The Mornington Peninsula, Australia. My journey with electronic music began nearly 30 years ago, when I first heard dance music in a Melbourne club. That moment sparked a lifelong dedication to sound, composition, and rhythm. I began collecting records and got my first music software. From the very beginning, I was drawn to the textures of minimal techno, ambient, and house. These genres shaped my creative direction and continue to influence my sets and productions today. 

After several years of playing in clubs and at parties, I found my place behind the mic and the decks in radio, where I spent 15 years sharing music and connecting with listeners. These days, I keep things simple and soulful—DJing for friends at home and for the good people tuning in online from around the world. The passion remains as strong as ever: it's all about the music, the community, and the journey it takes us on.

About the mix:
I have selected a fair dose of tunes from 2025, a few a little older and a couple of golden oldies to round things off.  Most of the tunes are dub techno, with a strong minimal, moody feel. The older tunes provide some sonic excellence and reflect my influences. Much respect to all of the Artist who's work i have used for this set, you are all amazing. From the early days of the free party scene from brickworks to caves to beaches Ive been there filling generaters banging tent pegs ,laying cables carrying soundsystems  known as "Jim the WaterMan" wandering the party with a waterbutt and cup on a string hydrating party people for fun and spliffs,to making music with 303s samplers and drum machines,putting on Chill Sites at festivals in Tipis djing till dawn,to having a little club in our bassment with brick dj booth, to being in bands nobody heard of playing keyboards,to ,moving to Manchester partying at Bugged out ,to having our own collective putting party nighs on ,to moving to the countryside ,to having an accident  having to walk with sticks no more dancing the night away,so here still djing in my living room with cool tunes I find with my family and cats keeping it real,I do the mixes for me to play in our van and my workshop,I love to share them with you and to bigup the talented folk who make the tunes ,theres so much cool music out there,Im just doing my bit.Enjoy life its the only one you have :}Jim.....
