We jump into our 101st mix from one of our most recent Phonica releasee's; French born and Swiss based DJ & producer Lea Lisa. If you some how managed to miss Lea's most recent outing with us we highly recommend it. Taking inspiration from legend Mark Goddard's (aka The Truth) classic "The End", Lea's "Love To The End" is her own various takes on this 1992 UK gem!  And thus is what we see in Phonica mix 101, a crossing of time, styles and blends. Passing through elements of deep, cosmic, tech and jacking styles of house Lea Lisa shows that she shares the divine skills of legends like Kerri Chandler and Ron Trent. We have a quick chat with Lea about her recent projects and to see what she has in store for the future.

Mixmag invited Honey Soundsystem @honeysoundsystem to their SF Debut for The Lab, a video web series featuring Honey's Jason Kendig @kendig & Jackie House @jackie-house . Jackie got ahold of me after it was discovered that a friend Laurine @laurine_sl from Slow Life Berlin @slow-life was invited as the after party special guest dj following the live broadcast. Yea Laurine and I weren't recorded for the video portion, long story short Jackie got me involved as the 'warm up dj' and I'm always honored when I get to DJ with the Honey Crew. The 'warm up' set made for a great recording as well, I hope you agree ;) -Jimmy

Jimmy B has been acclaimed amongst the finest DJs in the everlasting underground scene of the Bay Area. As a Bay Area resident growing up in the 80s & 90s, Jimmy was fortunate to be influenced by a diverse array of culture & music. Mixed himself, Dutch-German and Irish from his mom's side and his dad's Polynesian descent, Jimmy's truly a blend of the Bay Area culture and its ethos. 

It was Jimmy's teen years when he began exploring the tail end of the massive rave boom taking place on the West Coast during the 90s. As years went by the rave "massives" diminished, politics and new regulations pushed things underground into warehouses, lofts and intimate outdoor gatherings. This is when Jimmy and his friends really became intrigued and manifested thei party crew under the name RXFX. They spent much of their time organizing events catering to vibe-driven underground house music.

Between DJing & throwing warehouse parties in Santa Cruz, he and his friends would travel north to San Francisco and frequent the Green Gorilla Lounge, Sunset Soundsystem, DHP and Slide undergrounds. 

During college, while attending the Green Gorilla and Velvet Shop parties, Jimmy befriended DJ M3 and Anthony Mansfield and they shortly took the SF newbie under their wings, getting him involved as a resident with the legendary Green Gorilla Crew. The nights of quality house music and morning grooves continued mostly in the form of Green Gorilla loft and warehouse parties. Later DJ M3 acquired The Triple Crown where the Green Gorilla Crew DJ'd frequently for three years before its close and subsequently led to the opening of Monarch where the crew continues to share magical evenings of solid house music.
