Our 10th Selects podcast marks another special one. For this version we have selected a glimpse of Alex Tomb’s extended performance from depths of the forest, recorded live at exquisite event “Mystagogia” by TRAP & Electronica.

What makes this journey even more exceptional is that it was his first set in front of a crowd in over a year and he made sure that every second was special. 

Alex is an experienced mixer with precise attention to detail, a very delicate touch and effervescent resonance. He directs the listener through deep explorative trips that play with the psyche. A musical dialogue filled with colours, changes of perspective and almost life-changing dispositions.

Melody Lab Selects Alex Tomb [SLCTS #10]

@anthonygeorgespatrice ’s music is nothing constant and stable as it aims to explore rather then succeed. The well acclaimed Parallel Romance even though being the one piece that may be remembered by most, represents only a fraction of the field attempted to be covered throughout the experience. Taking roots closer to the soul centered movements of Electronic Music, having as first influences artists like Sun Orchestra, Masters At Work and Glenn Underground, the musical taste and interest slowly shifted to a more essentialist direction while keeping a profound fascination for Detroit legends such as Rick Wade, Omar S, or even Carl Craig. The battle between explicit melodies and repetitive tools had now begun, the dance of the soul and the mind had now made its first step. From there started an exploration which is intended to never find an end, to never find a final destination, but which is lead by the strong hands of the Deep Spirit which represents the common factor, or the Ariadnes Thread to the journey. A sort of safety road map to follow in case the experiment turned bad. His ‘Interpersonal Challenge EP’ has been released on @endless-worldwide last month.

The Sound Of The Light Spectrum by The Unknown Psychologist

In celebration of a dear friend's wedding.

I was struggling to find my groove at the beginning of this night. I was finding it difficult to let go of family and work related concerns and that impacted my musical expression. Perhaps the primal screaming in the first track encapsulates the pandemic years for many of us. I knew I had to redeem myself and play a decent set for my dear friend. I think I was able to bring things together during my final session on that island, and this recording is a memory of that.

I hope this small gift brings you peace and joy.

Ich habe 2007 ganz klassisch mit TTs angefangen, mich dann eine Zeitlang mit CD-Mappen rumgeschlagen (auf denen ich meine eigene Schrift nicht lesen konnte). Inzwischen bin ich dankbar für USB-Sticks und ein Minimal-Setup. I travel light.

🗯🗯 Was vermisst du seit März 2020 ganz besonders? 🗯🗯

Die Musik war ja nie weg. Aber egal wie lange oder laut du zu Hause oder auf Kopfhörern drehst, du hast nicht das Gefühl wie im Club oder Open Air, dass der Sound dich durchdringt und umgibt. Und natürlich die Menschen – in ganze Gesichter schauen, Emotionen sehen und mitfühlen.

🗯🗯 Hast du in der letzten Zeit etwas Neues gelernt? Neues Wissen, andere Inputs, neue Themen? 🗯🗯

Ich liebe es, Neues zu lernen. 2020 habe ich meine Yin-Yoga-Teaching-Skills vertieft, 2021 habe ich mich in Scrum und agilen Methoden weitergebildet. Mein Mann hat mir einen E-Bass geschenkt, aber ich übe nicht so gewissenhaft wie er Gitarre, leider. So werden wir natürlich keine Band ;)

Thomas + James are a DJ & production duo from Glasgow’s West End. Growing up surrounded by electronic music, they began experimenting with production apps at just 10 years young and mixing on decks by 13. Clubbing in Glasgow has nurtured, shaped and matured their sound, with the backdrop of world renowned clubs like Sub Club, The Berkeley Suite and La Cheetah where they have flourished over a year long residency.

Following an introduction by a well known native, it was obvious the duo's sound was highly aligned with Verdant Recordings, fusing deep house, dub techno and minimal grooves. For  a teenage duo, their sound is refined, seasoned and well informed.

Insignia EP drifts between hazy dub techno textures and stripped-back deep minimal house with a 'wee hours' dance floor focus. Patiently arranged tracks swell with warm low-ends, atmospheric pads and precision tuned percussion. Ulf & Ralf revise the title track in their unique and unpredictable fashion for a gentler comedown.
