Digital Mixtape Vol. 3 by Kapote

Even though Mad Mats and Tooli runs a 'house label' we hope our various influences from other musical genres shine through the label's vast catalog. 

One strong influence on Local Talk is of course jazz, in any shape or form. So on our new '-ish' compilation series we thought we begin here...Jazz-ish.

The compilation is full of personal favorite jams from Local Talk. But some tracks stand out a little extra. Kai Alce's melodic remix of Munk is a personal fave and a true beauty, Kaidi Tatham's mix of Coflo is proper UK jazz-fusion boogie (ish.), Dean Zepherin's 'Blue Moon' is a classy jazz-funk number and Ron Trent's remix of Kyoto Jazz Sextet is as deep-jazz as it gets. 

Put em' all together and I hope you will hear what it's all about.JAZZ-ISH

Juno Download Guest Mix - Le Hutin (De La Groove)

We invited our good friends the Patchouli Brothers for a special guest mix session just a few days ahead of their set in Montreal for the annual Mundo Disko party presented at Pride Festival (August 13th. Infos here)

We gave the talented DJ/Production duo and brothers in disco a simple challenge: make us a mix featuring their favorite Montreal discothèque records.

“We focused on some of our Montreal favourites from the 70s and 80s.  We missed a few though. Amra. Nina Dunn. More! 

Most of the Canadian disco we love is from Montreal! There are definitely a few great Toronto records from the time, but a lot of what we dig comes from or is connected to Unidisc and their sub labels. Think there was just more of it produced in Montreal as the scene was stronger? The Montreal music we enjoy is more of that electronic, euro influenced sound, while the Toronto stuff we’ve found to be more connected with classic r&b and/or Caribbean influenced. We like the likes of Crack of Dawn, Liberty Silver, Everett Haughton, from Toronto, just to name a few to not leave our hometown outta the picture! “

A few last words before we see you on the dancefloor at Mundo Disko?

“We’re honoured to be involved! We’ll be doing our best to continue the legacy of our musical hero and friend, Robert Ouimet, by playing music we love and making everyone dance!”

MIMS Guest Mix: PATCHOULI BROTHERS (Dodo Records) — Montreal Disco Special

This week was the turn of Garage City resident & London legend and all round nice guy Rude Boy Rupert who does not disappoint and delivers an absolute stomping show that shows why and how Rupert has firmly forged his position on the scene.   
More recently Rupert has been called upon to join the Chillifunk Records team bringing his ear and experience to the legendary label.
Last year Rupert released his latest EP (link below) on Chillifunk with more releases coming soon.
