Beyond The Horizon

Here's another piece from my upcoming Encantado CD. At the time I wrote this song I had pretty much finished the album, but I had also just received my Jorge De Zofia (JDZ) guitar. Well…of course, I could write one more! After all, the CD had only 9 songs and I wanted to record something with the JDZ! Eric Hansen had also just received his JDZ so I asked Eric if he would be interested in guesting on this tribute to Jorge - the criteria being that we both needed to record with our JDZs. This track is the result. A special shout out to Randy Tico (fretless bass) and Ramon Yslas (percussion) for providing the groovin' backbone.

About this piece: After I mentioned the concept behind this composition to my friend and fellow guitarist Dan Sistos, he did not hesitate when I asked him to join me on it. We had a blast! Thanks to Bo Astrup for mixing what ended up being a more challenging piece than originally conceived. Jim Stubblefield - La Selva Negra

Jim Stubblefield, a native Californian, began playing guitar seriously in high school where he studied rock guitar styles with world renowned transcriber Wolf Marshall. He then went on to study jazz guitar with well known jazz educator Jody Fisher. During his college years Jim's guitar influences included jazz guitarists Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin and rockers Yngwie Malmsteen, Alex Lifeson, and Randy Rhoads.

After graduating from college, Jim was introduced to Kuwaiti oud player Waleed Hamad. While writing and performing with Waleed, Jim became enthralled by the acoustic guitar and began listening to artists such as Shakti, Strunz & Farah, and Vicente Amigo.

Jim released the nylon string acoustic guitar driven Cities of Gold in 1997 followed by 1998's Rhythm of the Heart. Jim's music also appears on 1998's Neurodisc/Priority Record's Pure Flamenco: Nuevo Flamenco Passion compilation along with such artists as Ottmar Liebert and Govi.  Jim's two most recent solo efforts include Guitarra Exotica (2007) and Inspiracion (2010).

In late 1999 Jim co-founded the Latin guitar oriented world music group Incendio with bassist Liza Carbe' and guitarist Jean-Pierre Durand. Their recordings Misterioso, Illumination, Intimo, Incendio, Dia y Noche, Seduction, and Vihuela have gone on to sell tens of thousands nationally and their titles have appeared on the Billboard, NAV and CMJ charts. Incendio will also be featured on BajaTSR's Guitar Greats, Volume III that is set to be released in the spring of 2013.

Jim's music can also be heard on HGTV, ESPN, the Showtime series Re:Evolution of Sports, the History Channel show Modern Marvels, the WB show Elimidate, The Girls Next Door and many other network television shows.
