In the digital age, the compilation has lost much of it’s former glory. Not too long ago it was an indespensable format for the music-lover. Was it brilliantly compiled and telling a special story, the compilation was a significant gain as a particularly successful artist album. 

In recent times, the compilation has been cheapened with generic ’Ibiza’ and ’Miami’ labelling as the genre compilation all but dissapeared from the scene. 

This brought DJ T. to an idea, to create an homage to this nearly extinct format. As vol. 1 of the project is supposed to be a highly visible counterpoint to the ubiquitous, mostly House and Techno-stocked season sets and theme compilations, his choice fell on Disco; one of the oldest species in club music. Disco is currently experiencing a sort of rennaissance, with many young, and until recently, completely unknown artists and labels carrying the heritage on by working with new and contemporary definitions. 

Naturally limited by the selection of works available digitally, DJ T. chose a very personal array of 43 tracks to give the connoisseur an overview of the newest branches in the Disco-tree and to cover as many diverse genres the last three decades have seen. 

As the ’cherry on top’, the compilation contains a handfull of exclusive and unreleased tracks, including two new edits of the old DJ T. classics ’Philly’ &amp; ’Funk On You’. Catz ’N Dogz appear with a remix of ’Dis’, the big hit of his second album. DJ T. also put his hands on one of his favourite classics ’Around The House’, one of the early works of the Hamburg-Disco-King Tensnake. In addition there are two unreleased tracks from the two mexican artists Robbie Akabal &amp; Muan and Damian Uzabiaga.

He‘s back with one of his best releases in years: Falko Brocksieper, artist in residence on Treibstoff, labelhead of the freshly resurrected Sub Static roster, DJ and master of small gestures with big impact. His „Frantic Formula“ doesn‘t so much indulge in contemporary trends, but harks back to the classic expertise of Brocksieper‘s oeuvre, being light-footed and pushing forward at the same time. The playful and yet stern sequences of the ep‘s title track are the best example for this, trotting along in a relaxed manner without ever deciding if they just wind down or start to run. The basis for this beautiful hybris are always a particularly healthy bass and friendly harmonies, that lean heavily towards sweet melody, but never get trapped in hokum. One suspicion is quickly confirmed: this guy must be in possession of powerful secret ingredients. How else could one explain this constantly successful balancing act between experiment and functionality?

Falko Brocksieper - Frantic formula | Treibstoff#093

Range Rover, the British luxury sport vehicle celebrated it's new Evoque model by creating a special contest for music producers to submit music with the chance of being featured in one of their TV advertisements, plus a release on Cologne's Treibstoff Recordings. Treibstoff founder Marcel Janovsky and friend and DJ partner Gabriel Ananda were invited by Range Rover to be guest jurors for the event. 

Michael Nielebock of Berlin was the chosen winner with his track titled "Pure Vision". It will be honored as the first release on Treibstoff's limited series, a platform for special and extraordinary releases. The A-side contains the original track written by Michael Nielebock with minor additions from Janovsky and Ananda, and the B-side includes a full remix by Ananda. The result was not only well suited for the commercial, but also a firm start to the Treibstoff limited series!
