"I guess he'll never feel the same way…"

My only entry into this year's Spring Tracks comp held on Battle of the Bits.

Uses 2a03 + 6 channels of N163, over-clocked to 224Hz (so this can't be played on real hardware, sadly).

The Coffee Zone

Hopeless Romantic [N163, 224Hz]

New stuff. 
 Pure ZX Spectrum 48K with its powerful BEEPER, that is: 

 The Dynamic Duo ;) of ZX48 chips - 

 **Zilog Z80** and **Ferranti ULA** - 
 harnessed again, to generate more 1-bit music with strange new synthesis in 9 channels of sound (8 tones + drums). 

 I composed this song using a non-published (yet) engine programmed by Introspec, based on the old good Octode. 
 Except the new way of synthesis, there are also introduced 2 levels of volume (4 loud and 4 quieter channels). 
 Hence - more space, more weight, in Beeper music. 
 Recorded from real hardware. 

 Compiled data (TAP file) is only 8Kb big (which is small for the Octode and its clones). 

 The song itself is a kind of 'funky / ballad', I don't know if you would like it. 
 So enjoy anyway, even though ballads never win compos, and I put it into BotB:

MISTER BEEP - Interstellar Drift (ZX48)

first gameboy track in a while! not the most cohesive or well-structured song of mine ever but it was fun to write :) Recording turned out a smidge quieter than expected so turn that volume up!!

Scored 50th overall out of 292 entries. 17th out of 67 in the "Wild Chip" category.

So I decided to try My luck in this years "Winter Chip" compo over at battleofthebits.org. This is a track that will be on My upcomming debut album (never gonna finish it though, muhahaha!)

A young and molten earth yearns for company.

Company arrives in the form of increasingly violent lifeforms.
6:25 - 8:39 "From Your Caves, Emerge!"
Humanity reaches its current point in evolution, and looks up at the stars for the first time in wonder.
8:39 - 10:53 "Outward"
Humanity invents agriculture, and from this point onward, builds increasingly vast civilizations.
10:53 - 14:26 "Inward"
Humanity runs out of room as the Dark Ages hit. However, the renaissance has other ideas.
14:26 - 17:49 "Upward"
Humanity reaches the moon. The Earth realizes that the company she has come to love and cherish is not permanent, and sings a song of farewell to her favorite children. (I am not a woman, so please make do with my voice instead.)

Wow. What can I even say about this other than, "Thank god it's finally over"? I've been working on this song since October 15th, and it is without question the finest piece of music I have ever composed. I'm almost reluctant to press "submit" because I've become so addicted to working on it.

But if I made it much longer, the filesize limit on this format would positively DEVASTATE my pride and joy.

If this was the last song I ever wrote, I can't say I wouldn't be satisfied. At a time closer to the present than I'd like to admit, I considered the idea of writing one final towering work as a capstone of my ability, and then ending my life, in so doing, leaving a musical suicide note.

This is what my suicide note would have been.

Of course, thanks to Loon (to whom this song is dedicated), I no longer have even fleeting thoughts like these. And, to be honest, this song is far more inspired than anything I could have written in a hopeless state.

Thank you for reading my ramblings, and I hope you love it as much as I loved writing it.
