Classic Dance Music Show with Jip Mann - February 2022

Joining Jip on the show this month is none other than Birmingham 90’s House Legend Lee Fisher. 

Starting his DJ and Production Career in the late 80’s, Lee became a pivotal figure in Birminghams House Scene - having famous releases and remixes most notably as part of the due known as “Mother” - DJing across the country but  Internationally too Lee found himself playing at many of the most famous dance music institutions such as Ministry of Sound, Back to Basics, Club UK, Chuff Chuff, Garden Festival, and Ibiza Clubs Pacha and Space. Lee will be playing some extremely rare and sought after Italian vinyl for us, specifically house music that was created for lavish club environments in the Western Adriatic Riviera, Italy in the early 1990’s.

His mix explores some of the rarer titles that in many cases are still to be discovered. Enjoy!

Groove Clinic with Jip - Underground Dance Music - Episode 1

Miss Moneypenny's - the legendary Birmingham Nightclub, I was a regular and between1996 - 1997 I don't think I missed a single Saturday.

So I found this old tape a couple of years ago of a DJ Mix I'd done on my decks at the time - it was titled "Miss Moneypennies Latest" - from memory I think it was meant to be a DJ demo for me to send to them. The tracks on it all really took me back to that magical time in clubbing history (despite the tape sound quality being pretty awful after probably being played to destruction at after parties / in my car) - the tracks made it pretty easy to narrow down the date to mid to late 1996.

So I decided to remake it again using all the tracks on the original tape - it's not one for the chin strokers, there are plenty of well known tunes and a few surprises - bear in mind these were the tracks that stuck out to me as a clubber from visiting weeklyand listening to the residents such as Jim Shaft Ryan as well as the guest DJs. Other people may disagree on the main tracks of 1996 or have different memories, but an actual tape from the day, mixed with the records I could buy at the time is a pretty decent reminder of the music of MP's in 1996 for me personally.

In honour of the tape I've kept the original order of tracks pretty much in tact, but with a couple of tweaks where I thought appropriate.

So press play and imagine yourself back in 1996 on the hallowed dance floor that was MP's at Bonds Nightclub. I hope you Enjoy :)

Latest Vinyl Underground House Releases 2025 - Groove Clinic Radio - Episode 48

Old house mixtape from about 1993 - absolutely loved this, but the tape itself was a battered recording of a 2nd hand recording and played over 1000x - so the sound quality was by now shocking. 
*** So I have endeavoured to remake it myself ***
It's taken me several years to try and find the names of all the tracks, hunt down ridiculously priced old vinyl copies on discogs, but it has been a labour of love. Some of the tracks I have been hunting on vinyl for 22 years!!
I've tried to stay absolutely true to the original, in terms of play order, points at which tracks got mixed in etc
Kudos to the original DJ, whoever he/she was. If I had to take a wild guess Daniel Davoli of Black Box (Ride on Time) fame - due to Italian House content and year of the mixtape. Others have said Vertigo or Hammy - tape originates in NW area where I used to live. Think Shelleys / Bowlers / Legends / Angels etc Any suggestions welcome.
This was played on the way to / back from many amazing nights in my car, as well as numerous house parties.
Lots of Italian influenced house tracks, lots from the disco magic label - some really rare. 
Thanks to all the people who have helped me ID some of the tracks - definitely not a task Shazam was up to!

1994 I discovered a club in Birmingham called WOBBLE. Anyway this is a mix of all the hands in the air tunes from that summer that for me defined my 1994 experience of Wobble. 
I've used a bit of artistic licence with the intro - Some may not agree with every tune choice, some of them may not be the most underground or 'credible' tunes but they were the dancefloor fodder that Phil Gifford and guest DJ's such as Chris & James, Luvdup, etc. were hammering that summer that defined my personal experience... and most of them still make me smile now....  enjoy!

As Wobble Birmingham celebrates it's 25th anniversary I thought it would be appropriate to do a little tribute mix.
It's a bit of a mish mash, but that was the beauty of Wobble and it's DJs, you never knew what was coming next - so I tried to capture a bit of that spirit and pay homage in my own way to the Wobble residents... loss' of tracks from the 1994 / 1995 era.

Wobble Birmingham 25th Birthday  - Jip Mann Tribute Mix

Late nineties / early 2000's mix of house vibes and garage flavours that were popular in Birmingham in the early Noughties...
Put together for a friends 40th recently - who wanted to step back to the days of going to many of the after hours places in Birmingham (usually lap dancing venues that then switched to all night clubs after about 1pm)
I enjoyed putting this mix together as was a bit outside my usual type of set - but really nice to reminisce on those days.
