I made this cover originally around the time of the 50th Anniversary of Abbey Road.

It wasn't actually to commemorate the anniversary, but because I'd intended on recording a lullaby for my daughter before she was born.

I know that the vocal recordings clip and I messed up the lyrics a couple of times.
I planned to re-record it to fix both of those things and expand on the arrangement.

However, in the end my daughter was induced early, so this was the version she kicked to as a bump, and the version she reacted to as a newborn. Because of that, I don't think I can ever change it.

The track retains the 'Demo1' moniker because it will forever be flawed and unfinished, and yet for me this track, sentimentally, is perfect.

Golden Slumbers [Cover] - Demo1 (2019)

Another sound test. I really wanted to build on this one but couldn't get particularly far.

Drum loop is just stock but both (well all three) synths are my own.

The "lead" if it can even be called that here is just a sawtooth wave with filter automation and a little reverb.

The main event is the textured background synth. I might miss a few bits here as it was early 2019 when I looked into this one:
--Originally three engines in one synth patch, I split this to two lanes to get a little more control over the mix.
--The low end is fairly simple, sawtooth with reverb and filter running through a ramped LFO.
--The main part is two quantised sawtooth waves, an octave apart with various components (filter, effect modulation, panning, unison engine detuning) running through multiple LFOs and envelopes.

Probably the most complex patch I've made so far, still a huge amount more to learn here - I still feel like it was a bit of a fluke to come out sounding like this.

Spacey (2019)

Another track that went nowhere because I realised it was utterly garbage so dropped it.

Originally started messing around with Reason's organic instruments (which were new to me at the time). Picked up the sitar patch and dropped a melody down which I rolled with. Streets of rage-esque drums were kind of unintentional but I was trying to use more drum machine kind of sounds deliberately rather than trying to force them to sound organic and that's what naturally fell out of it.

Backing synth ended up being the Orchestral SAM string library, which felt wrong when I layered it over the top so I added a bunch of effects to it.

Listening to it back it sounded a little too much like the Mission Impossible theme so I sanitised it and it ended up essentially just being a descending arpeggio - which sounded utterly trash.

Just thought fuck it, was originally like Mission Impossible so I went all in this evening before uploading.
Sitar melody changed but sounds and mix remain the same.

Used the working name for this - literally have no idea why I called it that.

Was looking at video game music at the time and wanted to try to put some of my old patches to use in a different way.

Started this with the intention of going back but honestly I don't see any future for it.

Wavey(2019)

The first track I ever tried to record vocals or instruments directly to audio. Up until this point I'd worked exclusively with midi.

First version was started and finished in Christmas holidays 2018. Since then, I've come back to it I don't even know how many times almost exclusively revisiting the mix.

I found every small tweak or adjustment drastically altered the tone of the track. On recent reflection, I think this is mostly because I made the mistake of overcrowding particular frequency bands in the arrangement.

I still wouldn't say I'm completely happy with the tone, but there have been enough corrections in the mix for me to be as happy as I think I can be with where it sits overall.

TL;DR at the bottom...

I started this account with a view of posting the stuff I'd finished up and was really proud of. Looking back and seeing the two tracks I have posted - the first I ever created and one I knocked together in an afternoon, I realised what a dumb idea that was.

I left everything open without description to keep any feedback that I got back neutral - but listening back to the tracks and looking at the cryptic hints I left in the titles I realised what a mess that was too.

Now quarantine's hit and I've finally had time to think about getting back into production, I had the opportunity to fully take stock and think about how I want to take this forward. I definitely see my WIP catalogue as just getting in the way of getting anything made, and to be honest, I just need to experiment and get some feedback on anything that comes out of it.

From now, I'll be posting a bunch of stuff from my backlog that I consider 'done' for now. I don't necessarily think it's good, I don't necessarily like where it sits and I definitely can't guarantee it'll be "finished" - but anything here will be something that I don't want to have in my "I still need to get this done" queue.

I'll also go back and comment the crap out of anything that's on here so it explains where the track is at and what I think about it at the time that I post/revisit it. 

TL;DR - Going forward I'm mostly using this space as somewhere to get these things out of my head - but if you somehow stumble across this profile and give any tracks a listen, I want to hear your thoughts.

Regardless of the state of a track, or my comments on it, feedback is welcome on literally anything I post here.

It's all about getting better at the end of the day.
