Matt Sewell's "A Crushing Glow".

This very diverse collection of tracks covers a timeframe from 1969 until now. It  develops over 14 cuts through the pastoral Post-Punk of the Durutti Column, the Acid of Tin Man via the indo-prog of the Third Ear Band. Along the way the pastoral pop of Parsley Sound sparkles and  the engaging contemporary classicism of Luke Howard engages, before tripping the light fantastic with the singular early 70's mysticism of Saddhu Brand and beyond. There's much more to this musical trip than that though-you'll understand when you hear the album.

As Dusted continues:”The album succeeds marvellously in painting some kind of portrait of life in wartime England from a great distance”.

Striking release artwork is by Martin Anderson who worked together as part of v23 alongside Vaughan Oliver, creating iconic design work for 4AD Records.

The Montgolfier Brothers, Mark Tranmer (GNAC) & Roger Quigley (Swim Two Birds) initially released “Seventeen Stars” on the Salford-based Vespertine label in 1999. Much critical acclaim & appreciation from pop dynamo Alan McGee led to a 2000 re-release on his nascent post-Creation Poptones imprint.

“So we ended up pressing records as usual. Our first record was Seventeen Stars by the Montgolfier Brothers, a baroque, cinematic classic that almost no-one has ever heard.” Alan McGee (On Poptones in “Creation Stories: Riots, Raves & Running A Label”  2013 )  

Since that moment, “Seventeen Stars” has gathered universal plaudits & affection, along with occasional live performances from the group.
