Live From The Teacher's Lounge

Years ago I would cross dress in my room and DJ, imagining that some day I might come out and someday live a life that felt so unattainable. I had deep fears of losing it all: my friends, my family, a chance at finding love. This weekend I experienced a reality I could have never even imagined, surrounded by extremely talented artists who care for each other, who accept each other and celebrate our weirdness in a container held by a village with a common vision.

I’ve also always had fears of stepping into music/DJing as a more full time thing, it felt so far away and such a risk that could never work out. Since being in the Bay Area I’ve been able to iterate over and over, surrounded by others dedicated to their craft and giving me opportunities to share what I’ve been playing with.

I still have the dream of sharing more with the world, this includes throwing dance events, enabling us to explore the queer parts of ourselves through holding space on dance floors, and getting back into music production to share my messages with the world.

I’m starting a mailing list, and soon a Patreon to help me dedicate more time to releasing mixes, creating music, throwing events and spotlighting all of the amazing musical talent out there in the world. I’d love for you to join me on this journey and contribute where you feel called.

Hi it's me Mr. Promises about continuing to make mixtapes.  I'm here to make good.  In pursuit of making DJing more than DJing but also .. less .. than DJing ... recorded this live in Traktor, Jan 2023.   This one is dedicated to Señor Swett ... man of many tropical off-kilter rhythms .. lover of sparse beautiful things ... of soundscapes ... and complex, less easily appreciated art. So much gratitude for the opportunity to bring in my first sunrise at the Grove. Big thanks to everyone that puts in their everything to make this place what it is. It blows my mind how many collaborations sprouted from this place - you people are magic. 

It took a minute for the nerves to settle for this set but we made it through. Thank you to everyone that made it out 🙏🏾🙏🏾 And it's ALWAYS all gravy if you didn't. That's why I release such recordings ;) 

This year ended up being one of my favourites for many reasons, the main one being that I've become more centred and balanced in my life. This set gets a little meditative so I hope this music helps you unwind and tap into your Self.
