This groove was written a while back "on Bass" before my bass died.... Feeling like I needed a dose of music, I took my recorded groove and added "rough" multiple guitar and drum tracks, all played by me. Decent speakers are needed to pickup this bass line as I recorded it smooth and low.

My 2012 Bass Melody with a little progression to it. The bass has died, but I am in the process of replacing it... Any way, I still have a "not so great guitar", drum kit and a multi-track, so I have taken the bass line (re-recorded in 2013) and implemented some not so well played guitar and drums roughed out by me.

This is a partial "Bass Melody" that I have been working on. Excuse the Metronome drum kit that I used. This recording is a bit primitive however, it gives a rough idea of what I have been working on.  Written and played by Jonathan Kunz 2011-2012

Jonathan Kunz - Bass Melody 1

I grew up playing piano compliments of my mother however; as I became a teen I began to play the bass guitar. I found more and more it was the melody and the bass line that most often resonated in my head. I became an adequate player however; life and personal priorities forced a long term music halt.

At 37, I once again began playing the bass guitar at a hobbyist’s level. My take on bass playing has changed since I was a teen, as I have now found that playing alone allows me to express myself more than merely playing a "walking bass line" and/or just being the glue between the guitar and drums. 

I realize one mistake that bass players often make is that they play too much and bypass the sole purpose of the bass guitar. That being said, I also feel that the bass sounds beautiful as a filling instrument and can easily and uniquely be used as a bass rhythm section. 

As a Christian, I sincerely appreciate the God given gift of music and look forward to seeing how my playing develops.  I plan on re-developing other musical interests of my past such as the keyboard and perhaps various arrangements. Who knows, maybe a return to the piano in the not too distant future?
