Turn it up

Kabeir Da-Juan is one of urban music’s rising stars. Kabeir love of all genres of music comes across in his powerful arrangements and his painful experiences can be heard in his poetic lyrics. 

Born in Newark, NJ, Kabeir was the fifth child of thirteen children. Kabeir’s parents struggled with a large household and found solace in the church where they spent most of their time. Although Kabeir’s home life was not always stable at times even violent, he always found music as his safe haven. With all the traits and tribulations Kabeir endured, it caused him to rebel.

Kabeir had several run-in’s with the law that ended with an eighteen month prison sentence. During this solitary time, Kabeir reflected on how he got there. Paying his dues to the streets for his survival and that of his siblings, who were left to fend for themselves individually when his father left home. As a twelve year old, he had attended more funerals than any child should be exposed to. While on the streets, Kabeir himself knocked on death’s door more times then he’d care to admit. Growing up in the church, Kabeir knew that his way of living went against everything the church taught him. With the struggles that came and the permanent scares left behind made Kabeir question his own existence. 

Remembering how his oldest sister and brother encouraged Kabeir to use his voice, they inadvertently helped Kabeir to cultivate his unknown talent at an early age. In hindsight while he sat within those four walls, he realized his gift that had been the truest part of him all along. During his eighteen months incarcerated, Kabeir penned about his life, his experiences, his perseverance, his dreams and how he viewed the world through his eyes. In doing this Kabeir left prison with an enormous catalog of lyrics. 
After his release, he crossed paths with his old friend Joe Kelly. While catching up, Joe and Kabeir flipped through his unknown masterpiece. Immediately Joe and his partner LB Alcala recognized what they had in front of them. Together they penned a deal and Kabeir Da-Juan signed to JL Music Management as their flagship artist. Under JL’s wings all things are possible. 

Everyone has a story. Everyone has felt they lacked something or someone at some point in their life. Everyone has been lost. Not everyone finds their way back. Only a few can honestly look inside themselves and know their true calling. Kabeir did. Now the world gets to hear his story.
