My grandmother passed away in April 2016. A few days after her passing I learned that she had been on a certain medication that caused her to be sedentary and disengaged. In January 2016, the doctors changed her prescription and the new medication revitalized her interest in the world. The grandmother whom I had known for 22 years was drastically different than the woman who raised my mother, and I will never be able to see that difference.

Perhaps a glimpse is all that can be caught
A dim reflection wavering beholden to the light
Which fickle shines on truth at times
Or shadows cast not told between.

Still I believe I saw you once or twice
fleeting as imagined, too real to mistake, 
and warm as the sun as it passes the clouds.

Perhaps a Glimpse

Musique concrète étude from sounds collected on a jetty during a thunderstorm in Duino, Italy and Anis Mojgani's spoken word poem "Shake the Dust." Best when listened through headphones.
