J-Lektro is the electronic music alias of @Jamian, a Chicago-based DJ, producer, and audio engineer with a rich musical heritage. Born in 1994 on the South Side of Chicago, J-Lektro is the grandson of Willie Mabon, the first artist to have a hit record on the legendary Chess Records, a legendary Chicago label that worked with iconic blues artists like Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Koko Taylor, as well as early rock and roll pioneers such as Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and the influential Etta James.

Growing up in a family with such a strong connection to Chicago's musical history has deeply influenced J-Lektro's artistic vision and fueled his passion for creating innovative, genre-bending tracks that pay homage to the city's rich musical legacy.

🎹 Early Influences and Musical Development

J-Lektro's musical journey began at the age of 12 when he first started experimenting with music production software like Ableton Live, Pro Tools, and Reason. While his grandfather's blues and R&B roots provided a strong foundation, J-Lektro's early influences also included legendary Chicago house producers such as Frankie Knuckles, Marshall Jefferson, and Larry Heard, as well as UK garage and grime artists like MJ Cole and Wiley. A visit from Chicago house music legend Joe Smooth served as a catalyst, igniting J-Lektro's passion for house music and properly introducing him to the scene.

J-Lektro's dedication to his craft and innovative approach to production have earned him recognition as one of Chicago's most promising young talents. In 2019, at the age of 25, he was named one of NPR's top 5 DJs to watch from Chicago, cementing his status as a rising star in the city's electronic music scene. His dynamic, high-energy DJ sets have captivated audiences at clubs and festivals across the city, showcasing his ability to seamlessly blend classic house tracks with cutting-edge electronic productions.
