King Von, born Dayvon Daquan Bennett on August 9, 1994, was an American rapper and member of the Black Disciples gang from Chicago, Illinois. He gained recognition for his vivid storytelling and raw lyrics, often depicting life in Chicago’s O-Block neighborhood, where he was raised. Signed to Lil Durk’s label, Only the Family (OTF), Von gained fame with tracks like “Crazy Story”, “Took Her to the O”, and “The Code.” His 2020 debut studio album, Welcome to O’Block, was well-received and solidified his place in the rap scene. 

King Von was a polarizing figure due to his alleged involvement in violent street activities, which often mirrored the themes in his music. His background in Chicago’s O-Block, a neighborhood associated with gang conflicts, played a major role in both his life and artistry. One of the most well-known incidents linked to him was the 2014 murder of Modell (a rival gang member), and he was also charged (but later acquitted) in a 2014 double homicide in Atlanta.

Tragically, King Von was shot and killed on November 6, 2020, in Atlanta, Georgia, during an altercation outside a nightclub with a .40-caliber Glock 22 handgun. one other person was killed while six were wounded. Despite his short career, he left a lasting impact on drill music and is remembered for his raw, narrative-driven style. Timothy “Lul Tim” Leeks, an associate of Quando Rondo, was later arrested and charged with Von’s murder but was later released on bond. Quando claimed self-defense, while Von’s crew, including Lil Durk, vowed retaliation. In fact, Von’s close friend and collaborator, Lil Durk and O-Block heavily dissed Quando Rondo and Lul Tim in songs, escalating the beef.


Despite his passing, Von’s influence continues. His music remains popular, and his name is often mentioned in conversations about drill music’s evolution. He left behind a reputation as one of the most talented storytellers in modern rap, with a raw and unfiltered approach that continues to inspire new artists. Von’s music gained massive posthumous success, with his album “Welcome to O’Block” topping charts. Von’s death intensified rivalries between O-Block and their enemies, leading to more shootings and deaths connected to the situation.
