Ensemble

In my first Wind Quintet I have attempted to represent a conversation between the various instruments. The work consists of one movement in which three moods flow into each other: Allegro, Grave e mysterioso and Allegro con moto. The main theme presented in the first two bars sets the thematic material for later development.
Aspects of classicism and modernism are incorporated in the melodic and harmonic treatment.
The Quintet begins with a unison statement of the theme spread out over three octaves with the flute taking up the second half of the theme. Once the main theme is established in the repeated section, the piece moves into a reinterpretation using the octatonic collection, where it remains for the rest of the composition.
Thematic material taken from the main theme is developed through both retrograde and inversion as well as through shifting note durations. Contrapuntal and canonic techniques are also used. Variety in colour and texture is achieved through the restatement of material in different solo or combined instrumental voices.
The slow mood in the middle section is a refreshing break from the activity in the first section. It brings in an air of mystery and relaxation with its haunting melodies and contrasting counter melodies before moving into triplets setting the pace for the change into the almost rustic and Nursery Rhyme feel of the final section.

There´s Someting I Need

Frida Boccara won the Eurovision Songfestival in 1969 with this song. It's a ballad with classical style. The Dutch pianist Louis van Dijk made an improvisation on this theme. There was no notation of it so I (16 years old) notated this piece note by note with the help of a taperecorder.
The work of a monk... By this presentation I used The new Ivory Grand selection which sounds marvellous! I recommend the Ivory sections to any serious piano player. Using the KAWAI VPC 1 with wooden, weight keys makes the total picture compleet as playing on a real Steinway!

Divertimento was written for Zephyrus Wind Ensemble and received its premiere at their inaugural concert in Dallas, Texas on 17th May 2019. Classical in style with an Introduction and a repeated A section followed by a B section, Divertimento uses both modes of the octatonic collection rather than the more traditional major/minor keys.

Divertimento

Romanza was originally written and dedicated to Angela Collier-Reynolds and Patrick Reynolds following a call for one-minute duets for Flute and Trombone. It is written as a dialogue between the flute and the trombone. The first five notes from the trombone sets the main motif which is developed in the trombone and decorated on the flute. There are a couple of instances where the main theme is imitated in the flute and the opening theme on the flute is imitated on the trombone. Although there are two arguments which reach their climax at the corresponding fermata, the dialogue reaches an amorous conclusion in the final two measures.

Romanza

Gomila’s String Quartet No1 was composed between 6th and 18th May 2020 during lockdown due to the COVID pandemic. It is written very much in the Classical style and consists of five movements: 
Allegro, Menuetto 1, Largo, Menuetto 2 and a final Allegro Vivace.
The Quartet is in C major with the 4th movement in the Dominant key.
The Allegro opens with a Tutti. The eight notes in the opening two bars of this movement form the basis for the whole composition e.g. the Largo uses these eight notes in retrograde to form its main theme. Other compositional devices are used to provide a fresh presentation of the opening motif.

String Quartet No 1

Composed during the summer of 2020, the Minuet and Trio for Wind Ensemble was written with the Calpe Band in mind. This was done with regard to the instrumentation available to the band. The piece follows the traditional form of the Minuet and Trio.
The first six notes form the basis for thematic material and development. It can be broken down rhythmically to two figures (3 crotchets: 2 quavers + 1 crotchet). These recurring patterns bind together all four layers of the composition.
I thank my good friend and fellow composer Deepak Ananth in India and acknowledge his support in providing the Sax stems.

Minuet And Trio For Wind Ensemble

Studied Clarinet and Theory at the Gibraltar Music Centre. Played clarinet in the local municipal band, Youth Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra.  Toured with a rock band as lead guitarist. Sang in the Tenor section of the Calpe Singers. Founder member of the Band of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment rising to Warrant Officer 2nd Class, appointed BSM. Musical Director of local productions of West End musicals. Conducts the “Calpe Band” and the “Gibraltar Band and Drums Association”.
Studied Music Education in UK. Taught in local schools becoming Headteacher at a Primary school.
Have written some processional, concert and military marches, including one for His Majesty the Sultan of Oman. I have received special mention at the  International Maurice Ravel soundtracks contest. One of my pieces is available on Ablaze Records. Another was premiered in Dallas. Some of my work is featured at AudioSparx. My compositions cater for different ensembles and genres.
